Herb Sendek, who has guided Miami (Ohio) to a postseason berth in each of his three seasons at the school, is the new men's basketball coach at North Carolina State.
School officials said Tuesday they will announce the appointment at a news conference today.
Sendek replaces Les Robinson, who resigned March 22 after six seasons. At 33, Sendek will become the youngest coach in the ACC.
Sendek flew to Raleigh, N.C., from Ohio on Tuesday to work out details before being introduced as the 17th coach in Wolfpack history.
Sendek, a former assistant to Rick Pitino at Kentucky, turned down the Nevada-Las Vegas job last year.
Todd Turner, N.C. State's athletic director, said he had spoken with about a dozen coaches during a 31/2-week search.
Miami finished 21-8 this past season after upsetting Arizona in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in 1995. In three seasons, Sendek guided the Redskins to a 63-26 record.
