A pizza delivery man was robbed early Tuesday in Northwest Roanoke, police said.
Police gave this account:
About 12:50 a.m., Donald Dale Haymaker Jr. tried to make a delivery in the 2200 block of Montauk Road Northwest, but no one came to the door.
As Haymaker walked back to his vehicle, a man stepped out of the bushes and demanded money. Haymaker gave him about $20.
In another incident, police arrested a Wytheville man and charged him with robbery in connection with a purse-snatching in Northwest Roanoke.
About 10:30 p.m. Monday, police said, Lois Peyton was walking in the Kroger Co. parking lot in the 5000 block of Rutgers Street Northwest. A man ran up to Peyton, grabbed her purse, hit her in the face and fled. A resident who witnessed the robbery ran after the man and tackled him, police said.
Peyton suffered a black eye and injured her hand, but refused hospital treatment, police said.
Garland Dwayne Whitaker, 33, remains in Roanoke City Jail unable to post bail.
