Poetry, prose reading

CHRISTIANSBURG - The Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library is celebrating National Library Week with "An Evening of Poetry and Short Prose," a public reading, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday at the Headquarters branch at 125 Sheltman St., Christiansburg. People can share their own work or just listen to others read.

Food service sanitation

DUBLIN - Eating out can be dangerous if the food is not handled and prepared properly. The National Restaurant Association has recognized the need to improve sanitation practices and is calling on food-service managers to seek training and certification in safe food handling.

A course will be taught by Virginia Cooperative Extension in cooperation with the Virginia Department of Health. The Pulaski County Extension Home Economist and Environmental Health Specialists are certified instructors.

The 16-hour Applied Foodservice Sanitation Course will be held on April 23, 25, 30 and May 2 from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at New River Community College in 208 Edwards Hall.

Registration deadline is Friday. Tuition is $92 and includes books, testing fee and certificate.

Overdue book amnesty

RADFORD - During the month of April, patrons with overdue books can return them to Radford Public Library and avoid fines.

Free refrigerator magnets with the library's hours listed will be given to the first 1,000 patrons who come in during National Library Week, April 14-20.

The library offers Internet information sessions on Tuedays from 6:30-7 p.m. and on Thursdays, from 3-3:30 p.m.
