COLLEGE NOTES

LAUREN R. PHELAN, daughter of Michael and Karen Phelan of Roanoke, has been named to the dean's list at the College of William and Mary for the fall semester. Phelan, a history and education major, is a 1993 graduate of Roanoke Catholic School.

PAULA L. PRINCE, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter F. Lada of Salem, recently graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a doctorate in sociology. She also received an Andrew K. Mellon predoctoral fellowship. Prince is a graduate of Andrew Lewis High School and the College of St. Rose in Albany, N.Y.

AMANDA J. RATLIFF, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Ratliff of Roanoke, recently received an academic achievement scholarship from Cedarville College for the 1996-97 academic year. Ratliff is a senior at Roanoke Valley Christian and plans to study accounting at the college, a Baptist school located in southwestern Ohio.

BRIDGEWATER COLLEGE announced the names of Roanoke-area students who made the dean's list for the winter term. They are: junior Michelle Brown, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Garland Brown of Roanoke; junior Shannon Harrison, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ron Harrison of Salem; sophomore Kelly Rebecca Honeycutt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George W. Honeycutt Jr. of Blue Ridge; and Kara Staufer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Staufer of Salem.

VALERIE M. GLYNN of Vinton was named to the dean's list at St. Francis College in Loretto, Pa., for the fall semester.

WILLIAM LITTON, an occupational therapy assistant student at the College of Health Sciences, recently received a pediatric affliction scholarship from Rehabilitation Associates, P.C. in Virginia Beach.

ROBIN RUFF of Fincastle recently received a $500 Maxine Williams Scholarship. The national scholarship is awarded to six individuals committed to a medical assisting career. Ruff is a medical assisting major at National Business College.

CLAYTON SCOTT HIGHBERGER and JULIA ELIZABETH SLEMP, seniors at Randolph-Macon College were recently elected to Phi Beta Kappa honor society. Both are from Salem.

KRISTINA M. LUTZ, daughter of Ann Marie Lutz of Roanoke, was named to the dean's list for the winter term at Furman University in Greenville, S.C.

AMANDA M. CROWGEY of Roanoke was named to the dean's list at Randolph-Macon College for the fall semester.

SUSAN ANNETTE SIMMONS, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond A. Simmons of Roanoke, was named to the president's list at Averett College for the fall semester.

NATIONAL BUSINESS COLLEGE has named the following Roanoke-area students to its dean's list.

They are: Heather Adkins of Vinton and Helen Price and Marie Price of Roanoke.

WILLIAM MURDOCK, son of William Murdock of Midlothian and Nancy Wingfield of Roanoke, recently received a doctorate in engineering from Virginia Tech.

Murdock received his bachelor's degree from Bluefield State College and his master's degree from the Air Force Institute of Technology.
