AVERETTE, Catherine Conner, 68, of Christiansburg, died Tuesday after noon, April 16, 1996, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was the daughter of the late Rifton E. Conner and the late Madaline Nolley Conner Vest; and the stepdaughter of the late Samuel P. Vest. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Hubert B. Averette; on son and daughter-in-law, C. Samuel and India M. Averette of Dublin; three grandchildren, Tara, Joshua and Tiffany Averette, all of Dublin; one brother, Alvin P. Vest, Moneta; three sisters, Mrs. Dillard (Lura) Stone, Christiansburg, Mrs. Tommy (Ellen) Ballard of Salem, and Mrs. Lacy (Gwen) Horton of Riner; a brother-in-law, Claude Johnson, Salem; and an aunt, Mrs. Ersell N. BEAVER, Rosie Penn, 95, of Floyd, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 1996, at Skyline Manor Nursing Home. CAMPBELL, Florence Eliza, 67, of Glasgow, died Tuesday, April 16, 1996, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born on January 7, 1 929, in Bedford County, a daughter of Pernie Markham Whorley of Bedford, and the late George Edward Whorley. Mrs. Campbell was a member of the Hunting Creek Baptist Church, Big Island. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emory Ross Campbell. DILLON, Charles Lewis, III, 55, of Boones Mill, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 1996, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born on August 16, 1940, he was the son of the late Charles Lewis Dillon Jr. and the late Jane Angell Dillon. Mr. Dillon was a veteran of the National Guard, and was a partner in Rocky Top Wood Preservers. Surviving are his wife, Donna H. Dillon of the home; a daughter, Carla L. Dillon of Christiansburg; a sister and brother-in-law, Sarah D. and Dr. Charles B. Mrs. Eary was a long time member of Northminster Presbyterian Church, and was a retired teacher from the Roanoke County School System with 27 years service. Surviving are her husband, Leslie M. GUERRANT, Phillip L., of Washington, D.C., departed this life on Sunday, April 14, 1996. He was born on January 25, 1957, in Roanoke Va., to Herbert and Arletha Pearl Guerrant. Phillip attended the Roanoke City Public Schools. He joined the First Baptist Church at an early age and sang in the Young Adult Choir. Phillip received his Bachelor of Science degree from Bowie State College in 1981. Until his illness, Phillip was employed by the Hyatt Corporation. He was recognized for his leadership while supervising staff, and was the recipient of the Hyatt Corporation Outstanding Employee Award. While living in Washington, Phillip worshipped at the Metropolitan Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his mother, Arletha Pearl Guerrant. He is survived by his father, Herbert Guerrant of Manassas; aunts, Cletis Wolfork of New York, N.Y., Mary G. Johnson of Beltsville, Md., Martha E. Lewis of Philadelphia, Pa., and Venzula E. Guerrant of New York, N.Y.; devoted cousins, Mrs. Eree Kasey and Mrs. Anniebell Dudley, and a host of other relatives and friends. HALL, Clarence William, 63, of Lexington, died Monday, April 15, 1996, at his residence. Mr. Hall was born March 13, 1933 in Rockbridge County, a son of the late Lacy Deacon Hall and Margaret Hays Hall. Mr. Hall was a member of the Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church, and a charter member of Centerville Moose Lodge #2168. Mr. Hall was a retired carpenter with E. H. Glover, Inc. in Fairfax. He was preceded in death by a son, Randy William Hall. Surviving are his wife, Frances ``Tootie'' Hall of Lexington; one daughter, Gloria Vest, Round Hill; one son, Jeffrey Hall, Lexington; three sisters, Juanita Smith, Lexington, Hilda Clark, Herndon, Charlotte Hardie, Ridgeway; seven grandchildren. HARDY, David Lee, 43, of Roanoke, departed this life on Monday, April 15, 1996 after an extensive illness in a local hospital. McALISTER, Peggy Phipps, 67, of Wytheville, died Wednesday, April 17, 1996 in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was a native of Independence in Grayson County. She was retired from the Wythe County Health Depatment with over 30 years of service as a registered nurse, a member of the Wytheville Presbyterian Church where she served as Circle Chairman of the Presbyterian Women, member of the UDC and DAR and member of the Wythe County Historical Society. She is survived by her husband, James W. ``Jim"" McAlister, Wytheville; daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Terry Bradbery, Chester; son and daughter-in-law, James Jr. and Sue McAlister, Richmond; sister, Diane Phipps Fanning, Bluefield; brother and sister-in-law, Lawrence Cox and Jane Phipps, Richmond; three grandchildren, Terri Lynn McAlister, Jordan McAlister, Amanda Bradbery. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday in the Wytheville Presbyterian Church conducted by the Rev. Dr. Michael Wingard and the Rev. TROUT, W. Donald, 85, of Narrows, died Wednesday, April 17, 1996, in Giles Memorial Hospital in Pearisburg. He was born in Vinton on February 17, 1911, the son of the late George Benjamin and Mary Ann Waggoner Trout. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Wilson Trout, and a sister, Catherine Trout Lloyd. He was a graduate of Narrows High School, Class of 1929, and served as a Master Sergeant in the U. S. Army during World War II. He was a retired president and chief executive officer of the First Virginia Bank of Narrows. Mr. Trout joined the First National Bank in 1934 as a bookkeeper, and during his successful banking career he received several promotions when the bank merged with the First Virginia Bank. He was active in local and civic affairs, and was a member and Past Master of Intermont Lodge #269 A.F.&A.M. of Narrows. He was a member of the Giles Shrine Club, Kazim Temple of Roanoke, Royal Arch Masons Chapter and Knights Templar, and was past treasurer of the Town of Narrows. He was a member of the Board of Stewards and a longtime treasurer of the First United Methodist Church of Narrows. He was a charter member and past treasurer of the Giles County United Fund. Mr. Trout was a member and director of the Giles County and Narrows Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Giles New River Area Development Corporation, a member of the Giles County Industrial Development Authority, a charter member and former president of the Giles Lifesaving and Rescue Squad, and was past treasurer and president of the Narrows Kiwanis Club. Mr. Trout was appointed by Mayor Ed Skidmore in 1985 to seek a solution to rebuilding the old Narrows Milldam. He was co-chairman that raised more than $30,000 and led a group of volunteers in carrying out the successful project. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne Heslep Trout of Narrows; a daughter, Ann T. Dye of Tega Cay, S.C.; a sister, Mary Louise Stall of Ocean Grove, N.J., and grandchildren, David F. Saleeba and his wife Julie of Charlotte, N.C., and Donald Travis Dye of Tega Cay, S.C. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church of Narrows, with the Rev. Larry Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery in Narrows. The family will gather with their friends at Riffe's Funeral Service in Narrows from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday. The family has suggested that those who wish to make memorials consider the First United Methodist Church in Narrows.
