THANK GOODNESS FOR KIND STRANGERS

Dear Neighbors:

On Monday morning, March 25, at 8:30 a.m. I drove downtown to attend a meeting promoting the "Downtown Designers Showcase." I parked by car in a rather deserted parking lot on Salem Avenue, checked to see that I was within the white lines, turned to go and put the money in the box, and I fainted. The next thing I remembered was being put on a stretcher and carried to a Rescue Squad ambulance.

The Rescue Squad told me that when they arrived there were two people there, trying to help me sit up. I remember none of this, but I would like to express my thanks to that unknown person or persons for picking me up and calling 911. How grateful I am that Roanoke has Good Samaritans who will stop and help someone who is not "lying beside the road," but passed out cold on a concrete parking lot.

I also want to thank Ellen Bender and Denise Persinger of the Roanoke Rescue Squad for their kind and gentle treatment of me on the way to the hospital. What could have been a scary situation turned out well because of the kindness of strangers.
