Things may get a little bit loopy Saturday in the parking lot encircling the New River Valley Mall.
Volunteers will walk around the mall parking lot from 8 to 10 a.m., rain or shine, to raise the additional $6,000 needed for Montgomery County's new playground equipment. More than $10,000 has been raised to date.
Walkers will enjoy a visit from Smokey the Bear and Tippy Canoe the Clown will perform magic tricks and create balloon art. Door prizes, coupons and gift bags will be given away.
The walk is open to adults and children of all ages. Children who walk will receive a one-day pass to the new county pool. Awards will be presented to the top three participants raising the most donations.
Forms for sponsors for the two-mile walk can be obtained at the New River Valley Mall or at the Montgomery Department of Parks and Recreation at 410 County Road in Christiansburg.
Participants should register before Saturday, if possible, though registration will be held the day of the event.
