AUTO RACING Foley back at FCS
Jay Foley of Stuart returns to the site of his first Southern Modifieds Auto Racing Teams victory Saturday when the SMART tour returns to Franklin County Speedway.
The Callaway track will play host to four SMART races this season after holding one in 1995. Saturday's racing card gets under way at 7 with the finish of last week's Late Model feature, which was halted by rain after 31 laps.
When the Southern Modifieds hit the track, Foley will have a chance to follow up on his victory in October and move up in this year's points standings. Foley is fifth in the standings after three races and trails leader Gary Myers of Walnut Cove, N.C., by 21 points. Only 30 points separate the top seven drivers.
SMART cars are open-wheeled and will reach speeds in excess of 100 mph on the three-eighths-mile track.
``We're looking forward to having four races at Franklin County Speedway this season,'' said Gary Myers, SMART's vice president. ``It's a perfect track for the modifieds.''
At 5 p.m., there will be a drivers' autograph session. There also will be racing in five other divisions, including the Mini Cup cars.
Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for students.
