Dinner at museum

NEWBERN - The 16th Annual Anniversary Dinner at the Wilderness Road Regional Museum in Newbern will be held on Saturday. Reservations are available for seatings at 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. for an all-you-can-eat buffet. The menu will include ham, chicken casserole, vegetables, salads and dessert. The buffet-style meal is $12.50 for adults and $6.25 for children 12 and younger.

On display at the museum are "Native Americans Led the Way" and "A Pioneer Spirit Conquers the New River."

Vet school open house

BLACKSBURG - Animal lovers can tour one of the nation's 27 veterinary colleges during the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine's annual open house. The event is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Virginia Tech.

Tours begin at 10 a.m., and will depart at thirty minute intervals throughout the day.

The open house will feature information on clinical approaches in veterinary medicine, academic programs, and related clubs and organizations.

A "Petting Zoo" and "Teddy Bear Repair Clinic" will be presented for children.

Grafting workshop

BLACKSBURG - The New River Valley Master Gardeners Association and the Montgomery County Extension Office will sponsor a grafting workshop on Monday and Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. The cost is $18. Call Debra Graff at 382-5790 for the location of the workshop.

An heirloom apple tree variety can be passed on to other members of the family through grafting. Participants will learn grafting techniques and take home five grafted fruit trees. They can choose from 15 apple varieties and may bring scion wood to share.

Charles Elgin, Master Gardener, will instruct.
