A driver who survived a head-on crash that killed three others denied he argued with another driver before both their cars went out of control.
Narky Terry told police and reporters he did not cause the crash Wednesday morning on the George Washington Parkway.
Witnesses said Terry, 26, and another driver weaved in and out of traffic and shouted at one another as they sped through the morning rush-hour traffic. Terry's Jeep and a car driven by Billy Canipe Jr., 27, both crossed the median and slammed into oncoming traffic.
Canipe, of Sterling, was killed along with drivers of two cars in the opposite lanes. Terry was treated for a broken ankle and released from a hospital Wednesday.
``He stated that he was just driving along at 50 or 55 mph., and he didn't say anything about playing cat-and-mouse games,'' said U.S. Park Police Maj. Robert Hines.
Terry, of Fairfax County, has not been charged in the accident. Hines said police and the U.S. attorney's office are discussing the case.
``We're still looking for more witnesses. We have the statement that these two drivers were having some sort of argument but ... we want anyone who saw these two cars to call us,'' Hines said.
Terry told The Washington Times he was not at fault.
``I heard there was a report of him arguing with me,'' Terry said. ``But I wasn't arguing with him. He just tried to cut me off.''
Also killed were Nancy McBrien, 42, of Vienna, and George Smyth, 49, of Poolesville, Md. They were headed in the opposite direction of the vehicles that crossed the median.
McBrien was a Navy reservist who had been recalled to duty for a 30-day assignment that began Monday, The Washington Post reported.
