ANDERSON, Edward Howard, (``Ed""), 87, of Route 2, Cripple Creek , died Thursday, April 18, 1996, in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was born in Wythe County, the son of the late Marion W. and Maggie Elizabeth Jonas Anderson. He was a retired supervisor from the Washington Mills Knitting Company and was a member of the United Lutheran Church. He was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth Hill, and a brother, Willie Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Louise Anderson of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Freda H. and James P. Willoughby of Harrisonville, Mo.; one son, Donald H. Anderson of Cripple Creek; two sisters, Virginia Moore of Wytheville and Bertha Hill of Fries; seven grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 1996, at the Barnett Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Gary Kelly officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens Cemetery in Rural Retreat. The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, or at the residence at any time. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville is in charge of the arrangements.

AVERETTE, Catherine Conner, 68, of Christiansburg, died Tuesday afternoon, April 16, 1996, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Friday from Main Street Baptist Church, conducted by Dr. Timothy Hight and the Rev. William Hungate, with burial in Sunset Cemetery. DAVID, Benjamin Thomas, 83, of Union Hall, died Wednesday, April 17, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Elsie C. David, of the home; four daughters, Mrs. Vivian Edwards, Union Hall, Mrs. Sylvia Armstrong, Amittyville, N.Y., Mrs. Mary Robinson, Union Hall, Mrs. Brenda Cooley, Belton, S.C.; six sons, Ben David, Detroit, Mich., Eugene David, Union Hall, Ronald David, Southfield, Mich., Bernard David, Roanoke, Kenneth David, Rocky Mount, Keith David, Union Hall; two sisters, Miss Bernice David, Pittsburg, Pa., Mrs. Essie McHeimer, Glade Hill; one brother, Roy David, Pittsburg, Pa.; 28 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. DILLON, Charles Lewis III, 55, of Boones Mill, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 1996, in Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Born August 16, 1940, he was the son of the late Charles Lewis Dillon Jr. and the late Jane Angell Dillon. Mr. Dillon was a veteran of the National Guard, a graduate of Roanoke College, and was a partner in Rocky Top Wood Preservers. Surviving are his wife, Donna H. Dillon of the home; daughter, Carla L. Dillon of Christiansburg; sister and brother-in-law, Sarah D. and Dr. Charles B. Pratt III of Memphis, Tenn.; three stepsons and spouses, Courtney and Amy Hutcherson, Greeneville, Tenn., Darron and Karen Hutcherson, Glade Hill, Colin and Melissa Hutcherson, Charlotte, N.C. He is also survived by five nieces and nephews, Laura Pratt Pipkin, Marietta, Ga., Margaret Clark Pratt, Jane Pratt Parks, Charles Benton Pratt IV, all of Memphis, Tenn., Stuart Pratt, Baltimore, Md.; three grandchildren, Matthew Hutcherson, Katy Hutcherson, Zachary Hutcherson, all of Greeneville, Tenn.; three great-nieces and nephews, Eliza Pipkin, Lewis Pipkin, both of Marietta, Ga., Samuel Parks, Memphis, Tenn. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at Lynch Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. DIX, Bertha Jefferson, 90, of Christiansburg, passed to a better home on Wednesday, April 17, 1996, at Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James D. Dix. She is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, James M. and Kathryn Dix, Madison Heights, Billy and Mary Ann Dix, Roanoke, Donald and Brenda Dix, Christiansburg, and Ken Dix, Denver, N.C.; daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce Dix, Richmond, Ramona and James Anderson, Roanoke, and Sue Dix, Christiansburg; 19 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one sister, Kate Lawson, Rising Sun. Md.; two sisters-in-law, Eleanor Josey, Elizabeth Dix, Danville; several special nieces and nephews; and many special friends. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Ralph Molyneux, with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. DONALD, Catherine Reynolds, 82, of Lexington, died Thursday, April 18, 1996, at Shenandoah Valley Health Care Facility in Buena Vista. Born on February 11, 1914, in Rockbridge County, she was the daughter of the late Will Reynolds and Lula Green Reynolds. She was the widow of Russell Donald. She was retired from Burlington Industries of Glasgow and was a member of Poplar Hill Presbyterian Church. Surviving are two brothers, Howard Reynolds of Glasg ow and Everett Reynolds of Lexington, and several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 1996, in Rockbridge Memorial Gardens, with Dr. Woodward Morriss officiating. GREEN, William Harvey, (``Bill"") 76, of Callaway, died Thursday, April 18,1996, in a Salem hospital. Mr. Green was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U. S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Belle Green. Surviving are one son, Dennis Green, Callaway; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Joyce and Frank Mills, Callaway, Annie and Edward Boyd, Floyd, P olly Preston, Callaway; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers and four sisters also survive. GROSE, Catherine Miller, (``Toots""), 75, of Vinton, died Wednesday, April 17, 1996, at a local hospital. She was a member of Vinton Baptist Church and the widow of Lloyd M. Grose. Surviving are a son, L. Michael Gross, Roanoke; a brother, Ray Miller; a sister, Gertrude Cole, both of West Virginia. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 1996, with the Rev. Kevin Meadows officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery. GUNTER, Janet B., 81, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 1996 in a local hospital. She was a graduate of Jefferson High School, and a member of Grandin Court Baptist Church. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, David C. and Lauren A. Gunter, Roanoke, and James Richard and Janet Burnette, Summerville, S.C.; four grandchildren, Amber Rose Burnette, and Erin Leigh Burnette, both of Summerville, S.C., Elizabeth Ann Gunter, and Scott David Gunter, both of Roanoke; brother, William H. Bond, Roanoke. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's South Chapel 3 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Philip Motley officiating. HEBNER, Alfred Kirk Jr., 74, of Roanoke, died Wednesday, April 17, 1996, at his home. He served as an Air Force Captain and Pilot during World War II and was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary K. Hebner. Surviving are his daughter, Michelle Anne Hebner Peterson, Roanoke; his granddaughter, Mary Kirk Peterson, Roanoke; his sister, Constance Prentiss, New Britain, Pa.; half siblings, James Bartels, Sy camore, Ill., Roy Bartels, Seminole, Fla., Catherine Lamb, Oregon, Ill. HUNT, Nathaniel Lewis Jr., (``Buddy''), 43, of Roanoke, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 1996. Funeral services will be Saturday, 11 a.m., at the Hamlar-Curtis Chapel. Dr. E. T. Burton will officiate with the interment in Williams Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. KASEY, Irene Bays, 83, of Vinton, died Thursday, April 18, 1996, in a local hospital. She was a daughter of the late Edward Taw and Hattie Martin Bays of Moneta. She was a member of the Vinton Baptist Church, and was a retired Retail Clerk from Smartwear Irving Saks and Leggett's Department Store. She was the widow of George Lewis Kasey. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-laws, Doris and Bill Dixon of Roanoke, and Helen and Charles E. West of Vinton; four granddaughters, Teresa and her husband, J. B. Atkinson of Richmond, Kelly and her husband, Curry Martin of Huddleston, Kristy Dixon of Roanoke and Kim Dixon of Fredericksburg; two great-grandchildren, Jessica and Brad Atkinson; a sister-in-law, Freda Bays of Roanoke; a nephew, Bobby Bays of Vinton; a niece, Becky Gautier of Miami, Fla., and a special cousin, Hazel Meador of Vinton. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 22, 1996, with the Rev. David Elks and Rev. William E. Hungate officiating. McNEER, Alma H., of Virginia Beach, formerly of the 3500 block of Courtland Road in Roanoke, died Wednesday, April 17, 1996, in Virginia Beach. Mrs. McNeer was a native of Red Sulfer Springs, W.Va. She was the widow of Basil W. McNeer. She was a member of Huntington Court United Methodist Church and its Womens Club in Roanoke. Su rvivors include a daughter, Jo Ann Russo of Norfolk; three sisters, May Brown, Beth Belcher, and Irene Long, all of Ballard, W.Va.; and two grandchildren, Deborah Marushi of Chesapeake and Stephen Russo of Dallas, Texas; and four great-grandchildren. PERKINS, Mary Virginia, 73, of Vinton, has gone to be with Jesus on Wednesday, April 17, 1996. She was a resident of Berkshire Health Care Center. She was a lifetime member of the Vinton Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar Allendur Perkins; her parents, Joseph and Cleo Weaver; brothers, Buck and Lynwood Weaver. She was the owner and operator of Ginnee's Beauty Shop in Vinton for over 20 years. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Virginia and Ronald Kline of Vinton; grandson, Edgar and wife, Natalie Kline of Louisville, Ky.; sister and brother-in-law, Edith and Roy Gray; sister-in-law, Frances Weaver; nephew, Don and wife, Joy Gray, all of Vinton, nephew, Wayne and wife Juanita Gray, Roanoke; niece Joan, and husband Bill Agnor, Raleigh, N.C. He was born in Bland County on April 22, 1912, the son of the late William Gordon and Mascie Missouri Spangler Wright. He was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Ramsey Wright. He is survived by two sons, Clayton Wrigh t, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Chester Wright, Dublin; two daughters, Mrs. Dona Lane and Mrs. Joan Allen, both of Newbern; one brother, Eugene Wright, Dublin; two sisters, Mrs. Thelma Havens, Bluefield, Mrs. Ruth Blankenship, Bland; eleven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at the A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, White Gate, with Minister Larry Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin.
