MIDWIFE TO SPEAK AT UNITARIAN ROUND-TABLE

SERVICES

* The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the New River Valley on Gladewood Drive in Blacksburg will host David Herndon, who will speak on "The Resounding Voice of Theodore Parker" at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Phyllis Turk, the only licensed midwife in the New River Valley, will talk about her profession during a round-table discussion at 9 a.m. 552-2717. Also, today the church will sponsor a Dances of Universal Peace celebration from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

* Christiansburg's Holy Spirit Catholic Church will celebrate Mass at 5 p.m. today at Our Saviour Lutheran Church on Cambria Street. The readings will be Acts 2:14, 22-23; 1 Peter 1:17-21; Luke 24:13-35. 382-8028.

* Blacksburg's St. Mary's Catholic Church on Harding Avenue will celebrate Mass at 5 p.m today and at 8:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Sunday. The readings will be Acts 2:14, 22-23; Psalms 16:1-2, 5, 7-11; 1 Peter 1:17-21 and Luke 24:13-35.

* Christian Growth Center on Electric Way in Christiansburg will have a discussion on sisterhood in the Lord April 27 at 9:30 a.m. 382-2908.

* Valley Harvest Ministries on U.S. 11 in Dublin has services each Sunday at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., and on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. has a Overcomers Ministry meeting for people struggling with problems such as alcoholism, divorce and drugs. 674-4729.

REVIVALS

* Jim Daniel, a layman from Summerville, Ga., who despite being blind for the past 32 years has conducted evangelistic meetings nationwide, will preach at Grove United Methodist Church in Radford. Services will begin at 11 a.m. Sunday and will continue nightly at 7:30 through Wednesday. Daniel also will address men's and women's groups and a luncheon at the Draper Valley Golf Club at 12:45 p.m. Monday. 639-2807.

* Radford Congregational Holiness Church on Second and Denby streets will have a revival with evangelist Robert E. Mays Sunday through Friday at 7 p.m. 731-1831.

* Abundant Life Fellowship on Old Pike Road in Pilot will have a revival with Doug Eccles from Livonia, Mich., at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. 382-4443.

JOYFUL NOISES

* The New River Community Chorus will present its Spring Concerts at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Presbyterian Church in Pulaski and 8 p.m. Monday at Central United Methodist Church in Radford. 382-5492.

SPECIAL EVENTS

* A Spiritual Gifts Discovery Seminar will be offered Sunday and April 28 at First Baptist Church of Radford. Led by Kent Taylor, it will be in progress from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and includes a Scriptural perspective on the use of personal gifts as well as a take-home exercise to help participants learn their strengths to help others. The seminar is free, but registration is needed. 639-4419.

* Clergy members from throughout the New River Valley are invited to a series of Mental Health Breakfast meetings, sponsored by the Mental Health Association of the New River Valley. The meetings will be on the third Thursday of each month from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the association office in Christiansburg. David Moore, a former pastor and licensed counselor, will conduct the sessions, which will feature an hour-long "Topic of the Month" and an hour-long case study. * Radford Church of God in Christ on Russell Avenue is conducting academic enrichment tutoring programs on Mondays and Thursdays from 7 to 9 p.m., open to grades one through 12. Computer skills will be taught sixth- through ninth-graders on Mondays from 8 to 9 p.m. 639-5948.

* A half-hour Bible study especially for lunch-hour workers has begun at First United Methodist Church in Pulaski. The Rev. Norman Wilhoit, pastor, will lead the group in Kirchner Chapel. The study will be from 12:10 to 12:50 p.m. It will continue through May 22.

* Christian Community Outreach in Radford has a food outreach on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union Hall in Fairlawn. Food boxes will be available on a first-come, first-served basis to people who meet U.S. Department of Agriculture income criteria. 639-5686.
