AMIS, Lola Jane Dugger, 94, widow of Dr. Otis C. Amis, formerly of Lexington, Ky., died Friday, April 19, 1996, in Louisville, Ky. She is survived by her children, Jean (Frank) Baugh and Dr. Jack (Nancy) Amis of Lexington, Ky.; Doris (John) Foster of Louisville, Ky., Phyllis (Cliff) Randall of Blacksburg, Va., and Katy (Tom) Gordon of Jacksonville, Fla.; her son Bob's widow, Joan Amis of Hopkinsville, Ky; 19 grandchildren, and 37 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by five sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Robert Amis, M.D.; several grandchildren; her brother, and three sisters. Born on August 31, 1901, in Place, Knox County, Ky., Mrs. Amis was a resident of Lexington, Ky., for 43 years. The last eight years of her life she lived with her children in Louisville, Ky., and Blacksburg, Va. She was a long-time member of Immanuel Baptist Church and a charter member of Woodland Avenue Baptist Church, both in Lexington. A public school teacher in Knox County Schools before her marriage, she continued her teaching career as a Sunday School teacher, friend and mother. The funeral for the beloved ``MawMaw"" of the Amis family will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 23, 1996, in Lexington, Ky., with her nine grandsons as pallbearers. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. The Rev. Walter K. Price, a family friend and Mrs. Amis' former pastor, will officiate. Milward's Southland is in charge of the arrangements. Family members will welcome friends at Milward's between 4 and 9 p.m. Monday, April 22. BARTA, Mae Spriggs, 85, of Radford, died Friday, April 19, 1996, in a Radford hospital. She was a retired McDowell County, W.Va., school teacher. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Joseph and Sue Blair Barta of Radford; two sisters, Della Spriggs of Elbert, W.Va., and Mabel Spriggs Johnston of Pulaski; two brothers, Charles Spriggs of Elbert, W.Va., and Johnny Spriggs of Arlington; four gr andchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the Gary Catholic Church in Gary, W.Va., with the Rev. Thatson Nguyen officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park, Bluewell, W.Va. BOLLING, Muriel Elizabeth Walker, 82, of Roanoke, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 1996, at her residence. She was retired from Puritan Mills and was the widow of Willie R. (Bill) Bolling. Surviving are two sons, James W. Givens, Charles W. Givens, both of Roanoke; one daughter, Joyce A. Cole, Roanoke; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; a sister, Lev onia Floyd, Roanoke; three stepsons; one stepdaughter. BUCHANAN, Katherine ``Kate"" (Clear), 84, of Roanoke, died Saturday, April 20, 1996 in Roanoke, Va. Mrs. Buchanan was a Radford College graduate and retired from Smyth County Schools, a teacher for 42 years. She was a lifelong member and Sunday School teacher at Union Methodist Church in Saltville, Va. She attended Oakland Baptist Church while residing in Roanoke, Va. Mrs. Buchanan has been a resident/patient at Friendship Manor in Roanoke for the past 10 years. She was the widow of Clarence A. Buchanan, Sr. and was preceded in death by two sons, Clarence A. Buchanan, Jr. and Stuart J. Buchanan. Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, James H. and Faye Buchanan, Roanoke; one sister, Martha Lamie, Greenville, Tenn.; one devoted sister-in-law, Mrs. Viola C. Clear, Saltville; ten grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several brothers and sisters-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Mrs. Katherine ``Kate"" Buchanan will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, April 22, 1996, in the D. R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Jack Kinchloe and the Rev. Robert Carbary officiating. Soloist will be Mrs. Virginia Kinchloe. Burial will follow in the Ridgedale Cemetery. She is survived by three daughters and son-in-law, Virginia Lee Graham Thomas, June Carlos Graham Sawyers, Mary Lois Graham Keggley and Gene Keggley; three sons and daughters-in-law, Wade Campbell and Bertie Graham, Robert Lee Graham and companion, Marie Rorrer, Henry Donald and Sandy Graham, Nan Graham; special granddaughter, Lynn Campbell, all of Blacksburg; 22 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren. HELMS, Nora Price, 87, of Blacksburg, died late Thursday, April 18, 1996, in the Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was a member of the Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church for over 50 years. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday from the Merrimac Pentecostal Holiness Church, conducted by the Rev. Jerry Sloss, with burial in the Pentecostal Holiness Conference Cemetery in Dublin. MAXEY, Teetie McBride, 100, of Vinton, passed away Saturday, April 20, 1996, at the Berkshire Health Care Center, where she had resided for the past six years. Teetie was born on July 11, 1895, the youngest daughter of the late Henry Thomas and Betty Ann McBride, and was raised and lived in the Scruggs community of Franklin County before moving to Roanoke. She was a member of Waverly Place Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by her husband, James Hiram (``Hike"") Maxey; her daughter and son-in-law, Elva M. and Paul McGuire; her son, Warren H. Maxey; her son-in-law, Joseph D. Montgomery; her two grandchildren, Margie St. Clair and Janet Barton; her great-grandson, Caleb St. Clair; her brothers, William McBride and Frank McBride, and her sisters, Rainie Williams, Minnie Maxey, Kate Evans and Nora Bates. Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law, J. W. and Edith Maxey, Davis and Dorthy Maxey, all of Roanoke, Perry and Edith Maxey of Goodview, and Iva Maxey of Roanoke; her daughters and son-in-law, Annie M. and Arthur St. Clair of Roanoke and Janie M. Montgomery of Moneta; a sister-in-law, Willie Divers of Vinton; 31 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, all so special to her. Funeral services will be held at Oakey's Vinton Chapel at 1 p.m. Monday, April 22, with the Rev. Charles Hoffler officiating. Interment will be in Franklin Memorial Park. MOSES, Tiny Alvin, 70, of Elliston, died Friday evening, April 19, 1996, in the V. A. Medical Center, Salem, Va. He was born in Northfork, W. Va. April 18, 11926 and was the son of the late Kelley Young Moses and Lucy Goad Moses. Mr. Moses was a veteran of the United Stat es Navy. Surviving are three sons, Robert, Asheville, N.C., John, Asheville, N.C., Robby, Roanoke; three grandsons; and three sisters, Beatrice Spencer, Max MEadows, Gladys Higgins, Richmond, Rosa Burnett, Elliston. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel, Pulaski, with the Rev. Dale Akers officiating. ROBERTSON, Edith Rowland, 77, of 172 Peoples Supply Road, Gretna, died Friday, April 19, 1996, in Danville Regional Medical Center. Born on August 1, 1918, in Pittsylvania County, she was a daughter of Jesse Green Rowland and Lucy Bell Rowland. Mrs. Robertson was a Dining Room Supervisor for the University of Virginia and Virginia Tech, having retired from the latter. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and filled a mission with the church from 1957 to 1959. She enjoyed her craft work in her retirement. She was married to the late Charley G. Robertson. She is survived by a stepdaughter and son-in-law, Charlotte and Gene Shrader of Pembroke; three brothers, Carlton Rowland, Waynesboro, Hamet Rowland, Hurt, and Herbert Rowland, Gretna; four sisters, Myrtle R. Morris, Jacksonville, N.C., Helen R. Dalton, Irene Rowland, Pearl R. Mitchell, all of Gretna; one grandson, Vincent Shrader, Provo, Utah. Funeral services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Monday, April 22, 1996, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Gretna Branch, by President Alfred Lester. Graveside services will follow at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Birchlawn Burial Park, Pearisburg. The graveside service will be conducted by Kendall Funeral Home, Pembroke. ROWSEY, C. Mayo, of Buena Vista, loving and devoted husband and dad, departed this life to a better home on Friday, April 19, 1996. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Joyce Watts Rowsey; his daughter, Lucy R. Dalton and husband Mike; parents, Earl F. and Flora H. Rowsey; sisters, Christine R. Johnson and Jeanette R. Ramsey, and all other lives he touched. Mr. Rowsey was the owner and operator of the W. T. Paxton Co. He was a member of the Stone Church of the Brethren, where he served as a Sunday school teacher and was involved in other activities of the church. He was a Past Master and Past District Deputy and District Instructor of Work for the Buena Vista Masonic Lodge #186 A.F.&A.M., a veteran of World War II, a member of the American Lodge Post #126, and the Antique Car Club in Staunton and Waynesboro. Mr. Rowsey was the current chairman of the Rockbridge County Social Service Board. He was a former chairman of the Dabney Lancaster Community College Board, former chairman of the Buena Vista School Board, serving two terms, former chairman of the Stonewall Jackson Hospital Board, serving two terms, and a charter member of the Buena Vista Rescue Squad. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Monday, April 22, 1996, at the Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel, with the Rev. Shirley Bruffey officiating. WERTZ, Roy B., 66, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, April 19,1996 at Lewis Gale Hospital. He worked for Rowe Furniture Company for 21 years before going into shrubbery care service, and later became estate manager for Marion B. Via. He was a member of the Oak Grove Church of the Brethren, where he volunteered caring for plants and shrubbery. He also volunteered for the Bradley Free Clinic. He will be greatly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Jane T. Wertz; one son, Tony Wertz, Myrtle Beach, S. C.; a daughter and son-in-law, Robin and Doug Craighead, Salem; four sisters and brother-in-law, Edith Camper, Vinton, Sylvia Webb, Katherine Agee, both of Roanoke, Violet and L. P. Abell, Vinton; five grandchildren, Nichole Wertz, Hollie Craighead, Sean Wertz, Michael Craighead and Kayla Wertz. Funeral services will be held Monday, April 22, 1996, at 2 p.m. from the Lotz Salem Chapel, with the Rev. Ed Woodard and the Rev. Carl Zigler officiating. Interment will be in Sherwood Memorial Park. WHITESIDE, S. Adrian, 81, of Buena Vista, died Friday, April 19, 1996, in the University of Virgi nia Hospital, Charlottesville. Born in Amherst County on August 30, 1914, he was the son of the late Charles Wyatt and Emma Clements Whiteside. He owned S. Adrian Whiteside, LTD, was a member of the Lexington Presbyterian Church, member of the Mountain City Masonic Lodge #67 A.F. & A.M. of Lexington, Rockbridge Shrine Club, Kazim Shrine in Roanoke and graduate of Washington and Lee University. Surviving is his wife, Elsie Hoffman Whiteside; daughter and son-in-law, Barbara W. and Fred W. McWane of Lynchburg; granddaughters, Michelle McWane of Sibley, Ind. and Faith McWane of Lynchburg; grandson and his wife, Rick and Vicki McWane; and great-granddaughter, Amanda McWane, all of Orlando, Fla. The funeral service will be Tuesday, April 23, 1996 at 11 a.m. from the Lomax Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. William M. Klein officiating. Interment will be in Neriah Baptist Church Cemetery.
