Business seminar on pollution prevention

RADFORD - Radford University's Business Assistance Center is sponsoring a seminar on ``Pollution Prevention: A Process That's Good for Business'' from 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday, April 30, at the center on Norwood Street.

The seminar will help participants understand what pollution is; start a pollution prevention program; learn from the successes of other businesses in your industry; evaluate money-saving techniques; meet environmental guidelines; and find information.

Participants will receive individualized on-site follow-up counseling visits.

The program is open to all businesses, but the center especially wants to help auto repair shops, machine shops, printers and publishers, textile and apparel manufacturers, and wood products and furniture manufacturers.

Help offered those starting own business

CHRISTIANSBURG - Montgomery-Floyd Regional Library and Radford University's Business Assistance Center are sponsoring a seminar on "How to Guarantee Your Success in Starting and Growing a Small Business" from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. May 2 at the Christiansburg Library.

The seminar will point out free local information on how to start a business, and focus on writing a business plan, finding financing. marketing, and developing an Internet homepage.

For businesses that are looking to expand, the seminar will offer data on government information, market references and information available on the Internet.

Thursday: The Pulaski Chamber of Commerce will hold a Business After Hours mixer at BBA Friction Inc. in the industrial park from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, April 25: Central Fidelity Bank is hosting a mixer for the Christiansburg-Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at its office at 4 E. Main St. in Christiansburg. Wade's will cater the event. For reservations, call 382-4251.

May 9: New River Valley Institute of Management Accountants will meet at the Blacksburg Marriott for breakfast and a discussion from 7:15 to 8:45 a.m. The speaker will be Thomas Dunbar, a computer systems analyst at Virginia Tech, who will speak on ``Using the Internet in Business.'' The cost is $8 for members and $4 for students. The meeting was rescheduled from April 25. Make reservations by May 6 with Lynn Almond at 382-0462.
