YMCA PROGRAM HELPS SENIORS WITH GARDENS

The Virginia Tech YMCA is offering a garden project that is part of the YMCA Student Programs, which is run by students.

Volunteers are sent out to help area senior citizens with their gardens and yards. The program provides students and senior citizens the opportunity to form friendships while also providing a service to the community.

Interested seniors who want assistance and students who are interested in being volunteers can call Sue at 231-3734. Volunteers are not required to be knowledgeable about gardening, but it does help. The amount of work that can be accomplished depends on the amount of volunteers available to match with seniors. The program starts this month and ends in October.
