SPRING CLEANING

LENGTH: Short :   24 lines
ILLUSTRATION: PHOTO: ALAN KIM STAFF. 1. Montgomery County residents turned

out in force to help spruce up riversides, highways and byways

during the 13th annual Broomin' & Bloomin' cleanup on Saturday. 2.

On Stroubles Creek Road, the Luther Memorial Lutheran Church Youth

Group (right) piled up the trash in preparation for pickup;

meanwhile, a refrigerator display case (below), dragged out of

Stroubles Creek, proved too heavy for manual lifting and had to wait

for later removal. Final tallies of the amount of trash picked up

and the miles of highway cleaned weren't available Monday, but Linda

Crable, coordinator of the Montgomery County Improvement Council,

said 2,500 to 3,500 people, some as young as 6 years old, helped

with the project. See related brief on Page 4. color.
