Though all the participants in Saturday's Broomin' & Bloomin' cleanup in Montgomery County were honored for their volunteer work, a few stood above their peers because of extraordinary efforts - or finds:
* Linda Zeh won an award for recruiting the most volunteers, 28, from two Riner Girl Scout troops: Junior Troop 604 and Cadet Troop 343.
* Alpha Phi Omega won an award for finding the most unusual item - a plastic-foam head - the type used to store a wig - with a knife stuck through its face.
* Melissa Redden won for the heaviest piece of trash moved - a motorcycle on Yellow Sulphur Road.
* Jennifer Flynn won an award for finding the piece of refuse farthest away from its origin - a piece of coral.
* Bruce Myeros found a garage door opener along the New River, winning him the "strangest location" award.
* Margot Sebba was recognized for her continuing commitment to the cleaning effort. Sebba helped organize the original projects that evolved into Broomin' and Bloomin.'
