Frito-Lay studies Lynchburg move

Frito-Lay Co. of Plano, Texas, confirmed Tuesday it is considering the Lynchburg area for a proposed new chip factory.

The company is looking at other sites in the Mid-Atlantic, including other Virginia locations, but will not identify them, a spokeswoman said.

Construction of a new plant began in March in Jonesboro, Ark., and an Aberdeen, Md., plant will be expanded, she said, adding that she did not know when the location of the newest factory would be announced.

Optical Cable changes market

Optical Cable Corp. of Roanoke County said Tuesday its common stock will start trading today on the Nasdaq National Market. The stock has been trading on the Nasdaq SmallCap Market since the company completed its initial public offering of shares in March.

The company was accepted for listing on the national market after meeting its more stringent requirements, said Optical Cable president Robert Kopstein. The change should benefit both company shareholders and investors by increasing the stock's visibility, he said.

Optical Cable, in the Valleypointe corporate center, makes a wide range of fiber optic cable for data, video and audio communications.

MainStreet BankGroup Inc. of Martinsville has approved a quarterly dividend of 11 1/2 cents a share, payable June 20 to shareholders on June 6.

Hardwood Accessories Inc., a vent manufacturer based in Russell County, will build a factory in Dickenson County. The 40,000-square-foot plant will employ up to 279 people within three years, and production will start by early 1997, the company said Tuesday. Hardwood Accessories has been making heating and cooling vents for wooden floors since 1978.

Lowe's Cos. Inc. said its Roanoke store has received one of its six 1995 Store of the Year awards for outstanding customer service and performance. The store was selected from the North Wilkesboro, N.C., retailer`s 355 stores nationwide.
