ROANOKE CHAMBER PLANS WEB EXCHANGE

The Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce said Tuesday it has plans for a home page this summer and an on-line marketplace next year.

The latter will enable the chamber's 1,700 member businesses to exchange electronic transactions on standardized forms as long as they are connected to the Internet. No standards govern business transactions over the Internet now, said Doyle Edgerton Jr., president of Kinetic Data Systems Inc. of Roanoke, a computer consulting firm and partner in the project.

"The whole idea is businesses can do business between each other on the Internet and therefore become more efficient," said chamber president John Stroud.

The chamber's home page, planned for early this summer, will incorporate facts about the region, chamber member information and links to the members' home pages if they have them.
