Pulaski yard sale
PULASKI - The annual Pulaski community yard and bake sale will be May 2-4 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event will be at the old People's Drug store near Wade's and the Maple Shade Mall (across from Jackson Park). Proceeds from the sale will be distributed to the Pulaski Free Clinic, Youth Emergency Shelter, New River Valley Habitat for Humanity, Emergency Needs Task Force and the SHARE Christmas Basket Fund for Needy.
Donations of furniture, books, household items and clothes are being accepted every Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon. Donations will be accepted the morning of sale days.
Donations also can be brought to the Old People's Drug store. Volunteers are also needed before and during the sale days. For more information, call 980-2418.
Homemakers luncheon
CHRISTIANSBURG - The Future Homemakers of America at Christiansburg High School will have a luncheon today at the Demon Den restaurant. The lunch will include pizza, salad, beverage and dessert. Cost is $3. All proceeds will go toward the Knowles family. For more information, call the work and family studies department at 382-5178.
Ruritan meeting
ELLISTON - The Twin County Ruritan Club invites residents of Salem, Roanoke County and Mongtomery County who wish to help make the area a better place to live and work to attend meetings the second Thursday of each month.
On May 9 at 7 p.m., Sondra Brackman from Multimedia Creations of Salem will present "How To Do Business and Research on the Internet," a discussion geared to beginning and intermediate Internet users.
The discussion will be held at Shawnee Log Homes, 8620 Roanoke Rd. (Route 460).

Campaign deadline
CHRISTIANSBURG - Charitable organizations interested in participating in the 1996 Combined Virginia Campaign have until May 3 to submit applications to Richmond.
The Combined Virginia Campaign runs from Sept. 2 to Dec. 31. During that time, all state employees are given the opportunity to donate to the charities of their choice through payroll deduction. Last year, state employees contributed more than $2.3 million, which was designated to more than 1,000 participating charities.
Any private non-profit health and human services organization can apply. Qualifying non-profit organizations must demonstrate several characteristics, such as, but not limited to, delivery of health care to the needy, health research, foster care and basic home maintenance, legal services for the needy and transportation.

Free plays at RU
RADFORD - Radford University presents the play "Kind Ness," a story about a gorilla named Buzz that teaches people how to be true to themselves and relate to those who are different.
The free production will run tonight and Saturday night at 8 in the Porterfield Hall Black Box Theatre.
"Kind Ness" will alternate with the play "No Exit," which will be performed on Friday at 8 p.m., also in the Porterfield Hall Black Box Theatre.

Art auction
PULASKI - The Fine Arts Center hosts the third annual "Art & More!" fund-raising auction on Saturday at 7 p.m. at the art center's annex located at 44 Fourth St.
Included in the auction will be a signed watercolor by David Kent, one of Pulaski's premier artists and photographers. The painting of the Masonic Temple in Snowville was donated by the estate of David Kent and may be the last piece of his original artwork to ever be offered.
Other area artists' works to be included are Ron King, Jean Nelson, Jerry Powell, Lyndall Mason and Al Trivisonno.
Refreshments will be served from local restaurants and caterers and the Miles High jazz band from Radford will perform.

Art exhibit
BLACKSBURG - The Virginia Tech Museum of Natural History is currently exhibiting "Nature Through the Eyes of Children," through June 16.
The projects on exhibit were made by Blacksburg Middle School, Radford Child Care Center, the Methodist Preschool, Blacksburg Day Care Center, Rainbow Riders Childcare Center and the Virginia Tech Lab School.
There will be a grand celebration of the exhibit on Saturday, May 4 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Exhibitors will be present and guided tours will be available.
