E.J. Anderson blasted a home run, his team-leading ninth of the season, and junior right-hander Seth Greisinger picked up his fourth straight win as the University of Virginia baseball team defeated Virginia Tech 8-1 in a non-conference game Thursday in Charlottesville.
The Cavaliers have won the home-and-away series each of the past two seasons but the Hokies have a 66-62 edge in all-time meetings.
Tech's lone run came when Kevin Kurilla led off the third with a homer over the left-field fence. The Hokies got just four hits and three walks against Greisinger and releivers Joel Canady and Robby Robinson. John Thomas (2-2) took the loss, allowing seven runs, four earned, on six hits and a walk.
Greisinger (8-1) tossed a three-hitter through seven innings, striking out eight and walking two. The junior dropped his ERA to 2.14.

Matt Ermigiotti pitched a one-hitter and went 3-for-4 with two RBI at the plate to help Washington and Lee crush Lynchburg 14-1 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference baseball game in Lexington. Ermigiotti (6-4) gave up the only run in the third inning.
With the victory, the Generals (14-11 overall, 9-5 conference) clinched a spot in the four-team ODAC baseball tournament for the first time since 1989. The tournament will be held May 3-5 at Lynchburg City Stadium.
The Generals struck in the bottom of the first as Pat Hall drove in the first of three runners with a single to center field. Washington and Lee added four more unearned runs off Lynchburg starter Doug Cash (3-1) in the fourth as Cash made three straight errors on sacrifice bunt attempts. W&L added four more runs in the bottom of the seventh for the final margin. Lynchburg is 14-12-1, 8-5-1.
W.G. Smith, who had a 2-10 record, held Western Carolina to eight hits and three runs as seventh-seeded VMI won 7-3 at the Southern Conference baseball tournament in Charleston, S.C.
The Keydets (16-27) scored four runs in the first inning, led by Hank Morgan's two-run single. After that it was all Smith (3-10), who finished with a career-high nine strikeouts.
VMI was up 6-0 before Western Carolina scored its runs. Mark DeFelice (6-6) gave up 10 hits and seven runs for the loss.
It was the third time in four years VMI opened the tournament by winning as a seventh or eighth seed.
Tracy Prillaman of Hollins will make her fourth trip to the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association National Championship May 3-5 at the Los Angeles Equestrian Center. The Roanoke native will ride in the Novice Equitation Over Fences competition.
Other Hollins students competing in the championship are Maria Bishop, who will represent the southern region for the Cacchione Cup; Jenny Kischner, who wil compete in the Intermediate Equitation on the Flat; and Merrie Walker, who will compete in the Walk-Trot.
Paula Allan of Virginia Tech finished fifth in the Eastern College section of the shot put at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia. Allan's best mark was 42 feet, 4.5 inches. She also placed 23rd in the discus throw.
Blacksburg native Katie Ollendick finished sixth overall in the heptathlon. Ollendick finished with 4,763 points in seven events, edging her school record of 4,751 set earlier this month in the Texas Relays.
The Roanoke RiverDawgs will make their debut at Cave Spring Junior High School on Saturday in an exhibition game against a club team from Chapel Hill, N.C. The RiverDawgs open their second United Systems of Independent Soccer Leagues regular season next Saturday with a game against the Jackson (Miss.) Chargers.
The Roanoke roster for Saturday's exhibition includes three former Roanoke College stars (Aaron Ewert, Grayson Prillaman and Dustin Fonder), Radford's Ian Spooner and Edwardo Wissar, and former Virginia Tech star midfielder Eric McClellan.
The Limited Sportsman class makes its debut at Franklin County Speedway on Saturday night. Mike Elkins of Ferrum, the 1995 Street Stock champion, will lead the charge for the 35-lap feature during the Rentco Comfort Homes 300.
More than 20 cars are expected to compete in the 100-lap Late Model Stock car race. The event will be followed by races in the Pure Stock, Mini Stock, Rookie and Any Car divisions.
Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for students, free for children 10 and under. Rainchecks from the first race of the season, April 13th, will be honored for this race only.
New River Valley Speedway will have a 25-Lap MASCAR Mini Cup Car race Saturday night as part of the New River Valley Mall 200.
The MASCAR Mini Cup Car is a miniature scale car with the look of a Winston Cup Car, it runs on a one-cylinder Honda engine and has reached speeds in excess of 90 mph.
A 100-lap LMSC event also will be held, along with a 35-lap Limited Sportsman, a 25-lap Pure Stock and a 25-lap Mini Stock event. Gates open at 1:30, practice is at 3:30 and the green flag falls at 8 p.m.
