A Montgomery County man had to flee from a fire Thursday that destroyed his residence.
Madison Linkous Jr. of Oilwell Road was watching television when the fire began around 3 p.m. He escaped, but flames soon engulfed the trailer and all its contents.
A tall column of black smoke from the fire, on the eastern end of Price Mountain, was visible in Blacksburg and Christiansburg.
Officials of the Blacksburg Fire Department said the fire's cause is undetermined, but does not appear to have been set.
Linkous, the trailer's lone occupant, was left homeless by the fire. He was treated for first- and second-degree burns.
