Kathy Mantz, executive director of the Christiansburg-Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce, was one of five finalists this week for the New Century Women's Award.
Mantz and three other New River Valley women were among 32 professional women nominated for the first year of the award. It was created to recognize women who fulfill work or civic responsibilities along with family obligations.
Kathryn Haynie Parker, departing executive director of Planned Parenthood of the Blue Ridge Inc., won the award.
Also nominated were Bonnie Svrcek, Blacksburg's assistant town manager; Karin S. Clark, marketing manager for Anderson & Associates, a Blacksburg-based engineering/surveying firm; and Judy Tynan, formerly manager of marketing and public relations for Columbia Montgomery Regional Hospital.
The nominees were honored at a gathering of civic and business leaders from throughout Western Virginia Wednesday at Hollins College. Mantz was cited for her role in business and economic development in the New River Valley.
