A fire whipped by strong winds destroyed most of an apartment building Friday where Navy enlisted personnel and their families live, authorities said.
No one was injured in the fire, which began about 6 a.m., said battalion Chief Mike Wade.
The two-story building contained 10 apartments, Wade said. In all, 28 people lost their homes.
Cmdr. Dave Barron, a Navy spokesman, said replacement housing would be found for the families.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
