ALTIZER, Versie Bell, 87, of Christiansburg, died suddenly Thursday morning, April 25, 1996, at Radford Community Hospital. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Edgemont Christian Church conducted by Mr. Edgar Sutphin and Mr. Carl Bean, with burial in Sunset Cemetery. ATKINS, Herbert Leo, 66, of Salem, formerly of Craig County, passed away Thursday, April 25, 1996. He was retired from General Electric after thirty-five ye ars of service. He was a member of Bonsack Baptist. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruby Atkins. He is survived by his wife, Marie B. Atkins, two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Kathy Atkins, Rick and Teri Atkins; four beloved grandchildren, Kendall Leigh, Kelsey Elizabeth, Tyler Reese and Cameron Blake Atkins. Also surviving are two sisters, Dorothy Gorgan and Mary Kemp, Roanoke; one brother and sister-in-law, Earl and Wanda Atkins, Daleville. Services will be 1 p.m. Monday at the Chapel of John M. Oakey and Son, Salem with the Reverend Loresa Heyward and Reverend Danny Quinan officiating. Burial to follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. BOSTIAN, Jodie Dillon, 90, of 701 Starling Ave., Martinsville, died Thursday, April 25, 1996, at her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd P. Bostian Sr. She was born June 13, 1905, in McDowell, W.Va., daughter of the late John H. Dillon and Hattie Smith Dillon. She was a retired school teacher with the McDowell School System with 50 years service. Mrs. Bostian attended Concord College in Concord, W.Va. She was past treasurer of the McDowell County Retired Teachers Assoc. She was a member of McDowell Methodist Church for most of her life. She is survived by two grandchildren, Judy Gail Bostian, Charleston, W.Va., and Rev. Larry P. Bostian of Sanford, N.C.; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Floyd P. Bostian Jr.; and a grandson, Randy F. Bostian. Graveside services will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery, McDowell, W.Va. CARTER, Eula Mae Crowell, 99, of Roanoke, formerly of Raleigh, N.C., passed away Thursday, April 25, 1996, at Raleigh Court Health Care Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, J. Frank Carter Sr.; and a son, J. G. Carter. Surviving are two sons, W. E. Carter, Marion, N.C., J. Frank Carter Jr. and wife, Bonnie, Raleigh, N.C.; one daughter, Frances C. CHOCKLETT, George W., 77, of Roanoke, went peacefully to be with Jesus on Friday, April 26, 1996. He was a U. S. Army veteran, serving in both World War II and the Korean Conflict. In Korea, Mr. Chocklett was a member of the 780th V.A.T.T. He was a lifelong member of V.F.W. Post #1264 and D.A.V. Chapter #3, and was an active member of American Legion Post #3 and AmVets #40. Mr. Chocklett retired after 30 years of service with the Red Cross. Surviving are his loving and devoted wife, Betty E. Chocklett; daughter and son-in-law, Missy and Jerry Roberts of Salem; two precious grandchildren, Jenny and Dustin Roberts (his punkins) of Salem; brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas (``Bill"") and Alma Chocklett of Roanoke, and Eugene and Betty Chocklett of Orlando, Fla.; brother-in-law, George Fore of Salem; sister-in-law, Ruby Chocklett of Wilson, N.C., and many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday at Oakey's North Chapel by Aubrey Allen, chaplain of V.F.W. Post #1264, and Elmo Clemons, chaplain of American Legion Post #3. CHRISLEY, Emma Lou Grimes, 84, of Route 1, Box 124, Draper, died Thursday, April 25, 1996, at her home. She was born on March 14, 1912, in Fries, and was the daughter of the late William Grimes and Susie Crouse Grimes. Sh e was a charter member of the Draper's Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church. Surviving are her husband, Henry Chrisley, Draper; six children, Jessie Worrell, Pulaski, Bill Chrisley, Dublin, Chris Chrisley, Alexandria, Howard Chrisley, Max Meadows, Sue Chrisley, Alexandria, Darlene Davison, Annandale; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. from the Draper's Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church, Wythe County, with the Rev. Ken Fogus officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. EPPERLY, Mary McNeil, 80, died peacefully at her home near Christiansburg on Thursday evening, April 25, 1996. She left this life surrounded by her devoted family who had tended her during her brief illness. She was born in Locust Grove on July 7, 1915, to Thomas Benton and Florence Aldridge McNeil. Those who honor her gentle spirit will remember she was happiest when she was with her family, her quilts and her flowers. She is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Elvin (Doc) Willard Epperly; and eight children, Doris and Frank Linkous, Chester, Randall and Dreama Epperly, Christiansburg, Anna and Roger Handy, Radford, Clara and Wendell Martin, Woolwine, Marie and Bill Eanes, Radford, Reba and Mike Weeks, Troutville, Michael and Barbara Epperly, Willis, Loretta and Rafael Bedia, Roanoke; 21 grandchildren, Clifton (Pete) Linkous, Christi Linkous Phillips, Robert Linkous, Keith Epperly, Jeff Epperly, Lori Epperly Rakes, Brian Handy, Victor Handy, Roy Handy, Mike Martin, Wendy Martin Watts, Adam Martin, Angela Eanes, Danny Eanes, Jason Eanes, Alan Weeks, Bryce Epperly, Amanda Epperly, Mary Bedia, Rosa Bedia and Rafael Bedia; 18 great-grandchildren. FERRIS, Mary Cynthia Ward, 80, of Roanoke, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 25, 1996. She was the widow of Richard Samuel Ferris. Mrs. Ferris was a retired teacher from Roanoke County Schools, and was a long time active member of Central Church of the Brethren. Surviving are two daughters and a son-in-law, June F. and Donald D. Radford, Roanoke County, Margaret Naomi Ferris, Roanoke; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Samuel Paul Ferris, Roanoke, Richard Ellis and Debbie J. Ferris, Christiansburg; three grandchildren, Patrick Shane Ferris, Crystal Elizabeth Janney, Michael Paul Janney; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Benjamin Franklin Ward, Chattanooga, Tenn., Felix Jack and Frances Camper Ward, Roanoke; five sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; a number of nieces and nephews. JACOBS, Gorman W., 92, of Vinton died Friday, April 26, 1996 at his home in Vinton. He was a member of Belmont Christian Church for 70 years, having served most of those years as a sunday school teacher. He also served as a deacon, elder, e lder emeritus, trustee, and lay minister. He was retired from Norfolk & Southern Railway after 48 years of service. He was a member of Lakeland Masonic Lodge, #194 for 50 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Earnest Tilton Jacobs and Nannie Bell Huffmond Jacobs, a brother, Lowry Jacobs, and two sisters, Claudia J. Almond, and Reba J. Flick. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Cook Jacobs, and one son, Artist A. Jacobs, a brother, Emmett L. Jacobs, and a sister, Elsie J. Blair. KINDER, Ernest Stuart, 88, of Rural Retreat, died Thursday morning, April 25, 1996, in the Francis Marion Manor. He was born in Wythe County, the son of the late Stuart and Effie Lindsey Kinder. Mr. Kinder was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Rural Retreat, and was a retired auto mechanic with the Tarter Chevrolet in Wytheville. He is survived by his wife, Ennis Buck Kinder; one daughter and son-in-law, Elsie and Floyd Patrick of Greenville, S.C.; four sons and daughters-in-law, Frank and Anne Kinder of Roanoke, Bill and Jo Kinder, Bobby and Onita Kinder, all of Rural Retreat, Douglas and Harriet Kinder of Crestview, Fla. Thirteen grandchildren and several great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 1996, at the Lindsey Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Larry M. Bollinger officiating. Interment will follow in the Mountain View Cemetery in Rural Retreat. LILLY, Flora Christabell, 84, of Salem, went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 26, 1996. She died peacefully at her home, surrounded by several of the caregivers from Housecall HOSPICE and her daughter.

She was the wife of the late Jackson E. Lilly. Born in Roanoke, she was a resident of Salem for the last 60 years of her life. She worked in Eaton Yale and Towne in the parts inventory department and was retired from there after 30 years of service. She was an Honorary Life Member of The Salem Democratic Club. One of her other activities involved in helping to revive the Lilly Reunion and contributing information for the formation of a Lilly Family Tree. She was homebound the last few years because of failing health, but she still took a lively interest in the activities of her church. She is survived by a daughter, Jacquelyn and son-in-law, Harvey C. Volk, Bristol, Penn. Funeral services will be held at Lotz Salem Chapel on Monday, April 29, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Roy Rogers officiating. Interment will be at Sherwood Memorial Park. Visiting hours will be on Sunday, April 28 at Lotz Salem Chapel from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Faith Wesleyan Church of Salem.
LOVE, Hollis O., 92, of Eagle Rock, died Thursday night, April 25, 1996. He was a faithful member of Forest Grove Baptist Church, and was a retired farmer. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. LUCAS, Mabel Carmen Cauley, 85, of Hot Springs, died Thursday, April 25, 1996, at her residence. She was born May 30, 1910, in Clarksburg, W.Va., daughter of the late Charley Smith and Emily Swiger. Her stepfather was the late William Williams. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence Cauley and second husband, Marvin Lucas; two daughters; and three grandchildren. She was a housewife, and a member of the Hot Springs Presbyterian Church, The League of Older Americans, and the Murial Thomas Bible Class. She is survived by daughters, Edna Rexrode, Staunton, Emma Law, Hot Springs, Wilma Wriston, Hot Springs, Barbara Joe Carmen Stover, Roanoke; sons, Charles D. Cauley, Hot Springs, Roy K. Cauley, Grottoes; special friend, John Crouse, Hot Springs; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, April 28, 1996, at McLaughlin Funeral Home conducted by Rev. Steve Shaver, with burial in Woodland Church Cemetery.
