MARTIN, Lee T., 76, of Route 1, Max Meadows, died Friday, April 26, 1996, in the Wythe County Community Hospital. He was born in Wythe County, the son of the late Joseph Wesley and Elizabeth Dean Martin. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, a prisoner of war, and awarded a Purple Heart and the Oakleaf Cluster. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby McRoberts Martin; and a daughter-in-law, Carolyn U. Martin. He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Bill Bishop of Staunton, Sandy and Darrell Surratt of Max Meadows; four sons and daughters-in-law, Danny and Joann Martin of Radford, Jim Martin, Bill and Kathy Martin, Randy and Sheri Martin, all of Max Meadows; five sisters, Lola Shelton of Annapolis, Md., Faye Armbrister of Max Meadows, Della Armbrister of Wytheville, Susie Martin of Wytheville, Easter Mabe of Max Meadows; four brothers, Buford Martin of Max Meadows, Orbin Martin of Draper, Paul Martin of Staunton, Dewey Martin of Martinsville. Ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a number of loving nieces and nephews; a special cousin, Winifred Tickle of Max Meadows also survive. Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 28, 1996, at 2 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel, Wytheville, with the Rev. N. R. Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in the West End Cemetery. American Legion Post #9 will conduct graveside military rites. The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Home, or at the residence of Sandy and Darrell Surratt at any time. Barnett Funeral Home in Wytheville, is in charge of the arrangements.

MARTIN, Martha Jane, 81, of Martinsville, died Wednesday, April 24, 1996. Funeral 1 p.m. MOnday, Shiloh Way of the Cross Church. Arrangements by Stanfield-Miller Funeral Home.

MEADOR, Russell Mitchell, Sr., 81, of Vinton, died Friday, April 26, 1996. Arrangements by Oakey's Vinton Chapel.

MIKELS, Elaine Ayers, 68, of Buena Vista, died Friday, April 26, 1996, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. She was born November 11, 1927, in Rockbridge County, daughter of the late Harry Ayers and Sarah Staton Ayers. She was a member of the Peoples Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy D. Mikels; and a son, Roy D. Jr. Surviving are three daughters, Sharon Mason of Buena Vista, Charlene Mikels of Natural Bridge, and Teresa Broughman of Staunton; two sons, Dana Mikels and Timmy Mikels, both of Buena Vista; five grandchildren; one special grandson, David Mikels; and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel, with Dr. Wyatt W. Mayes officiating. Burial will follow in the Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Service.

MURPHY, Hazel Witt, 85, of Huddleston, passed away Friday, April 26, 1996, in the Bedford County Memorial Hospital. She was born March 12, 1911, in Bedford County, a daughter of the late Oscar E. Witt and Lula Updike Witt. Her husband was the late Otho N. (Pat) Murphy. She was a member of the Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Wayne L. and Arlene Murphy, Huddleston; a granddaughter and her husband, Waylene M. and Robbie Ballowe, Huddleston; a grandson and his wife, Timothy W. and Sheryl C. Murphy, Bedford; two great-granddaughters, Sommer R. Evans, Huddleston, Page A. Murphy, Bedford; a brother, Earl Witt, Lynch Station. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, April 28, 1996, at 2 p.m. from the Huddleston Church of God of Prophecy, by the Rev. Kenneth Lafon. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may call after noon today, and the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Updike Funeral Home, Huddleston.

OVERSTREET, Ruth Rucker, 94, of Roanoke, died Friday, April 26, 1996. Graveside services 1 p.m. Sunday at Gretna Burial Park. Arrangements by Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, Gretna.

PATTON, Johnnie Mull, 81, of Swannanoa, N.C., died Thursday, April 25, 1996. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Kaye and Lanny Cross of Blacksburg; grandchildren, Lee and Randy Cross of Blacksburg. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Swannanoa. PERDUE, Mary Elizabeth Plybon, 85, of Hardy, passed away Thursday, Apri l 25, 1996 in a local hospital. She was preceded in death by her son, James Monroe Perdue. She was a member of the Belmont Baptist Church and retired from Kenrose Manufacturing Co. Surviving are her husband, Alton Perdue; daughter and son-in-law, Louise P. and Fred E. Jones, Roanoke; grandchildren, Darrel Jones, Durham, N.C., Pam Gibson and husband, Jeff, of Roanoke; great-grandchildren, Megan Gibson and Kirk Gibson, both of Roanoke; sisters, Ethel Thurman, Hardy, Lura Pegans, Vinton, Nellie Booth, Hardy; brothers, Randolph Plybon, Vinton, Daniel Plybon, Roanoke, Silas Plybon, Rocky Mount, Calvin Plybon, Hardy; devoted friend, Reva Chitwood, Hardy; also numerous nieces and nephews. PRESCOTT, Donna Mechelle, 26, of Pulaski, passed away Friday, April 26, 1996, at Radford Community Hos pital. She was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Lee Prescott. She was an employee of New River Castings. Survivors include her father and stepmother, Larry D. and Edna Prescott of Floyd; mother, Linda Prescott of Belspring; three brothers, Michael D. Prescott of Pulaski, Phillip W. and James A. Prescott, both of Belspring; one sister, Alma Kaye Prescott of Belspring; one stepsister, Regina Sutphin of Blacksburg; paternal grandfather and stepgrandmother, Sherwood and Lois Prescott of Radford; paternal grandmother, Margaret Prescott of Floyd; maternal grandmother, Mazie Akers of Radford; special friend, Kenneth C. PRICE, Mary McLear, 96, of Bedford, departed her body peacefully Thursday, April 25, 1996, at Friendship Manor. She was born in Waynesboro on September 21, 1899, a daughter of the late Charles E. McLear and Minnie Hippard McLear. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Carl Pr ice. She is survived by her son, Carl M. Price, Roanoke; two grandsons, David Price, Naples, Fla., Scott Price, Roanoke; a granddaughter, Cynthia Jenkins, Williamsburg; two stepgranddaughters, Tracy Mirzayan, Roanoke, Shawn Bargerstock, Upper St. Clair, Pa. A memorial service will be held 7 p.m. Monday, April 29, 1996, at Friendship Manor Chapel with the Rev. Jim Fisher officiating. SHIFLETT, Blanche Chumbley, 71, of Christiansburg, died Thursday, April 25, 1996, in Montgomery Regional Hospital. She is survived by one daughter, Anita Jennings, Christiansburg; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Charles Jennings, Christiansburg, Harold and Jean Jennings, Elliston; one grandson, Bill Jen nings, Elliston; a brother, David Chumbley, Elliston; sisters, Etta Mae Sturgill, Chilhowie, Dorrence Brown, Pulaski, Mary Helen (Amy) Goans, Christiansburg, Virginia Howser, Richmond. The body has been cremated. A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 29, at the Richardson-Horne Funeral Home Chapel, conducted by Rev. Richard H. Horne. SIFORD, Marianne Johnson, 59, of Salem died Thursday, April 25, 1996. She was recently retired from Woods Rogers and Hazelgrove Law Offices. She was also a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, in Salem and was involved in Cursillo, R.C.I.A. and The Womens Club. She is survived by her husband, Ronald E. Siford; one daughter, Kathleen (Terry) Therese Siford, of Charlotte, N.C.; her mother, Evelyn Johnson, of Salem; a sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Ray Adkins, of Salem; several nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Salem with Father Gregory Kandt officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Saturday, from 5 to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the John M. Oakey and Son Funeral Home in Salem. SLAUGHTER, Noah A., 65, of Belspring, died Thursday, April 25, 1996. He was a retired employee of Pulaski County. Surviving are his wife, Sylvia Coleman Slaughter, Belspring; two sons, Noah A. Slaughter Jr. of Pearisburg, Noah Terry Slaughter of Belspring; two daughters, Nola Butler of Nashville, Tenn., Brenda Downey of Indiana; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren. THRASHER, Maeletta Conway, 93, of Buchanan, died Friday, April 26, 1996. She was a member of Springwood Baptist Church and Rebeka h Lodge #58. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, O.J. and Genevieve Thrasher, Conway and Rosalee Thrasher, Ben and Shelby Thrasher, all of Buchanan; two daughters and sons-in-law, Phyllis and Billy Witt, Carmel, Ind., Barbara and Wallace Muterspaugh, Buchanan; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; special friends, Mary Keith, Madeline O'Conner, Margaret Tynan, Ruth Sprangler, Chuck Whiting.
