Arts Depot to open dual show

ABINGDON - The Spotlight Gallery at the Arts Depot will feature work by artists Shawn Crookshank and Richard Andrew Houser starting May 5, with a reception for them from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Crookshank's art is influenced by Colombian and African art, German Expressionism and primitive art. Houser depicts people and places in Southwest Virginia and images of his family locally and his mother's family in Europe.

Both artists will be showing work from the past decade through this year demonstrating their development and collaborative efforts.

Arts getaway to Philly

ABINGDON - The William King Regional Arts Center will host an Arts Getaway trip to Philadelphia, Pa., from May 30 through June 2 including a visit to the Philadelphia Museum of Art for the only North American venue of an exhibition of works by French impressionist Paul Cezanne.

The cost is $750 per person or $1,500 per couple. The deadline to sign up is May 10. To do so, call Laura Rode at 628-5005.

The trip also includes excursions to Longwood Gardens, the Winterthur and Brandywine River Museums, and Arden Theatre Company performances of "Henry V" and "Festival of the Fountains" at Longwood Gardens.
