COX, Virgie Suzanne, 86, of Mt. Airy, N.C., formally of Carroll Co., passed away April 28, 1996. Funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday, Vaughan-Guynn-McGrady Chapel, Hillsville, Va.

CRAFT, Martha Hickman, 88, of Glasgow, died Sunday, April 28, 1996, at Heritage Hall Nursing Home. Born September 15, 1907, in Rockbridge County, she was the daughter of the late Charles Hickman and Martha Nicely Hickman. Mrs. Craft was a member of Natural Bridge Baptist Church, and was the widow of John P. Craft. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, May 1, 1996, at 1 p.m. from Harrison Funeral Chapel w ith Dr. Timothy Madison officiating. Burial will follow in Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. ELLIS, Josephine Gale Palmer, 80, of Roanoke, died on Sunday, April 28, 1996. She was the wife of George Thomas Ellis Jr., and the late Allen Ingles Palmer. She was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Sparrell Simmons Gale. She was active in many civic organizations. She was past president of the Mill Mountain Garden Club, the Women's Auxiliary of Greenvale (Nursery) School, and the Modern Arts Club. She served on the boards of and/or was a member of the Museum of Fine Arts, the Red Cross, and the Junior League of Roanoke. She was a member of the Colonial Dames and the Daughters of the Barons of Runnymede. She was a member of the Roanoke Assembly. She was an active member of the St. John's Episcopal Church. She is survived by her husband, George Thomas Ellis Jr.; four children and their spouses, Gale Palmer Penn and Robert H. Penn, Roanoke, Allen Ingles Palmer Jr. and Susan B. Palmer, Virginia Beach, Charles Simmons Palmer and Patricia P. Palmer, Roanoke, and Jane Ellis Covington and James E. Covington Jr., Richmond. As well, she is survived by six grandchildren, Elizabeth Marshall Covington, Telluride, Co., Jane Ellis Covington, New York, N.Y., James E. Covington III, Hanover, N.H., Allen Ingles Palmer, III, Roanoke, Charles Simmons Palmer Jr., Denver, Co., and Laura Blue Palmer, Missoula, Mt. There will be a private family graveside service. It will be followed by a memorial service at St. John's Episcopal Church 12 noon Wednesday, with the Rev. Thomas P. O'Dell officiating. The family will receive visitors between 4 and 6 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Episcopal Church. GREER, Woodrow Wilson, 84, of Montgomery, N.Y., passed away Thursday, April 25, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Emily R. Greer; two sons, Robert W. Greer and Edward C. HALL, Joshua Wilson, 82, of Lexington, died Monday, April 29, 1996, at Stonewall Jackson Hospital, Lexington. Born July 21, 1913, in Rockbridge County, he was the son of the late William Mercet Hall and Sadie Bell Deacon Hall. Mr. Hall was retired from the Maintenance Department of Burlington Industries, and was a member and trustee of Mt. Horeb United Methodist Church and Parsonage, and was a past Assistant Sunday School Superintendent. Mr. Hall is survived by his wife of 66 years, Louise D. Hall of Lexington; one daughter and son-in-law, Ella Belle and Roy Clark, Lexington; four sons and daughters-in-law, Burtney and Ethel Hall, Lexington, Nelson and Gatha Hall, Lexington, Oscar and Elsie Hall, Lexington, Ronnie and Thelma Hall, Lexington; twelve grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, May 2, 1996, at 2 p.m. from the Harrison Funeral Chapel with Rev. Kenneth Price officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Presbyterian Cemetery. HATFIELD, Kathryn Damron, 76, of Moneta, passed away Sunday, April 28, 1996, at her residence. She was retired from Miller & Rhodes, a cha rter member of Emanuel Baptist Church and presently was a member of Mt. Ivy Baptist Church in Moneta. Surviving are her husband, Alex W. Hatfield; two daughters, Ann H. Rickman, Moneta, Sue H. Lear, Mocksville, N.C.; one brother, John H. Damron, Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, Ruth A. Looney, Keen Mountain, Va.; three grandsons, Kenneth L. Rickman III, U.S. Navy, Kings Bay, Ga., Brian Alexander Lear, Dobson, N.C., James Joseph Lear, Mocksville, N.C.; two granddaughters, Deborah Ruth Lear, Cosby, Tenn.; Sarah Lavon Davidson, Mocksville, N.C. HODSON, Edith (Edie) Marie Massey, 66, of Salem, went to be with the Lord, Monday, April 29, 1996. She was a hairdresser by profession, but was most happy being a br idal consultant. Edie was a charter member of the Faith Baptist Church in West Salem. She was a loving wife and mother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hershman Dale and Bertha Gearhart Massey, and a brother, Dale J. Massey. She is survived by her husband, Ernest (Toby) Hodson; one daughter, Gail Beckner Vitulllo of Wirtz; one grandson, Michael Beckner, Roanoke; one loving sister, Bettye Chewning; one niece, Karen Burton, both of Salem. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, 1996, at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Salem, with Pastor J. R. Westmoreland officiating. JENNING, Wyse, of the Oak Level area of Bassett, died Monday, April 29, 1996 in Franklin Memorial Hospital. He was born September 16, 1920 in Carroll County, Va. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army and was awarded the Bronze Star. He retired from E. I. DuPont with 37 years service and was a member of the Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Lorene Mills Jennings, of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Betty J. and David C. Robertson, Oak Level, Virginia J. (``Jenny'') and Frank H. Smith, Richmond; four grandchildren, Jeff Robertson, Lori R. Palmer, Lane Smith and Lee S. Clayton; five great-grandsons; two brothers, Howard Jennings, Galax, Bernard Jennings, Hattiesburg, Miss. LEWIS, Hazel Kyle Jones, 88, of 301 N. 2nd Avenue, Bridgewater, died Sunday evening, April 28, 1996, in Rockingham Memorial Hospital. She was born December 17, 1907, in Roanoke, a daughter of the late C. L. and Onie Burnett Jones. Mrs. Lewis was educated at Radford College and had worked for the Roanoke City Schools and Bridgewater College. She was a member of Staunton Church of the Brethren, and was a volunteer in numerous civic activities. Surviving are a daughter, Judith L. Shuey of Staunton; three sisters, Mrs. Glenn Young of Bridgewater, Mrs. Raymond Plasters of Covington, and Mrs. John Spivey of Windsor; and two grandchildren. Her husband, Oliver M. Lewis, died in 1954. A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in East Hill Cemetery, Salem, conducted by Rev. Harold Moyer. Memorials may be made to Habitat for Humanity, P. O. MONTGOMERY, Mary Richardson, 95, of Dublin, passed away Monday, April 29, 1996, at Radford Community Hospital. She was of the Pentecostal Holiness faith. Survivors include one daughter, Elsie Tibbs of Dublin; one son, James R. Montgomery of Dublin; one sister, Bessie Nolen of Christiansburg; special niece, Hazel Lawson of Dublin; eleven gr andchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was a loving mother, Grandma, and Granny, and will be deeply missed by family and friends. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 1, 1996, at 11 a.m. at the Seaver-Sanders & Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with the Rev. Buford Linkous officiating. She was a life membership member of United Methodist Women. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Roy C. Jr. and Pauline G. Neff, Troutville; daughter and son-in-law, Betty Neff and Dr. Clyde L. WOODSON, Clarence Everett Jr., 75, of Orange Park, Fla. formerly of Roanoke, Va. died, Sunday, April 28, 1996. He was born February 20, 1921 and was the son of the late Clarence Everett Woodson Sr. and Dorothy Gresham Woodson Stanley. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Christine Davis Woodson; his brother, Hugh S. Woodson; and sister, Phyllis W. Stump. He is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Andrew and Shirley Woodson, Salem; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Sarah and Bob West, Mary and Marvin Hamilton; all of Roanoke; as well as five children; 11 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren of the Jacksonville, Fla. area.
