"My Sister's Sister," an autobiographical play written by Obie award-winner Julie Portman, will be performed at Hollins College Theatre on Thursday at 8 p.m.
The play has moved audiences from chuckles to tears in its depiction of a relationship between two sisters, one of whom is schizophrenic. It has captured the attention of the state's arts, mental-health and social-service communities.
"My Sister's Sister" is the third installment of Portman's "Family Album" trilogy. It is Portman's own story of growing up, and it explores the little things and bigger things in life - most of all, the supportive relationship between two sisters.
"It's surprising to learn of the number of people who have a family member afflicted by schizophrenia or another form of serious mental illness," Portman has said.
She portrays all of the characters in the production.
Admission is $5 for adults, $1 for students with a college ID.
