RAIN GIVES AVALANCHE A DAY OFF; 2 TODAY NOTES FROM ASSOCIATED PRESS AND STAFF REPORTS

Tuesday's Carolina League baseball game between Salem and Kinston in Kinston, N.C., was rained out. The game will be made up in a doubleheader today.

Game time for the first game is 6 p.m.

In the first game, Matt Poole (2-1, 6.28 ERA) will go for Salem, and Jarrett Wright (1-2, 0.87 ERA) will start for Kinston.

In the second game, Luther Hackman (2-1, 2.27) will start for Salem, and Igor Oropeza (1-0, 1.93) will be on the mound for the Indians.

The Avalanche has won eight of its past nine games.

In other baseball news:

ROCKY MOUNTAIN HIGH: Salem right-hander Brent Crowther was very impressive Monday, allowing the major-league Colorado Rockies no runs in a five-inning exhibition start for the Class AAA Colorado Springs club. The Sky Sox won the game 2-1.

Crowther started for the Rockies' top farm club and allowed only two hits and walked none with two strikeouts in a five-inning stint. He returned to the Salem club Tuesday and is scheduled to make his next Carolina League start over the weekend when Lynchburg visits Salem Memorial Stadium.
