Liberty sophomore Steve Wright went 4-for-6, hit for the cycle and drove in eight runs to lead the Flames past Virginia Tech 13-10 in 11 innings in a college baseball game Wednesday in Blacksburg.
After Tech (33-22) took a 10-5 lead into the ninth, Liberty (20-24) scored five unearned runs. Wright preserved the tie and sent the game to extra innings by throwing out Tech pinch-runner Randy Martin at the plate in the bottom of the ninth.
Wright then won the game by hitting a three-run triple in the top of the 11th off Blake Clancy. Britt Stoudenmire (1-1) took the loss while Jason Delinger (1-0) got the win.

Mike Fisher and Wendy Palmer were named Virginia's top male and female athletes during the annual awards dinner Wednesday at University Hall.
Fisher, a junior soccer player from Batavia, Ill., led the nation in scoring with a school-record 57 points. He received the Hermann Trophy as the nation's top collegiate player.
Palmer, a senior women's basketball player from Timberlake, N.C., averaged 15 points and 11.2 rebounds per game in making the 1996 Kodak All-America Team, the Associated Press All-America Team and the Basketball America All-America Team.
Russell Croft scored four goals and had an assist as Washington and Lee beat Randolph-Macon 15-6 in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference men's lacrosse game at Ashland.
Sam Horstman scored two goals for the 12th-ranked Generals (9-5). Ryan Traynor scored two goals for Randolph-Macon (7-8).
Virginia Tech's men's tennis team will play in the Region I championship May 11-12 at Harvard. Third-seeded Tech (20-9), Atlantic 10 champions, will play No.2 Harvard. The winner will face the winner of No.4 Princeton and top-seeded Florida.
