CHRISTIE, David Thomas Sr., 90, of Bedford, died Thursday, May 2, 1996, at his residence. He was born in Patterson, N.J. on October 15, 1905, a son of the late Thomas David Christie and Christina Robertson Christie. He was a retired electrician with Kearfoot Company. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Nussbaum Christie; a son, David T. Christie Jr., Berkeley Heights, N.J.; two daughters, Janet C. Eagler, Bedford, and Jean C. Steinman, Hope, N.J.; a sister, Florence C. Wein er, Upper Saddle River, N.J.; eleven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. DUNCAN, Mary Trenor, 88, of New Castle, died Wednesday, May 1, 1996. She was born in Sinking Creek Valley and began her teaching career at the age of 16 at Sand Hole School. She later received her BS degree in Radford College and after 38 years retired from Maywood School. She was a life long member of Old Bethel United Methodist Church, where she taught an adult Sunday School class and was a charter member of the United Methodist Women and also charter member of Maywood Garden Club. She is preceded in death by her husband, Martin V. Duncan and his survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Carol and Albert Barney Taylor, Sarah and Dallas Fisher, Rachel and Harold Mattox, all of New Castle; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2 p.m. at Old Bethel United Methodist Church with Charles Ammons and Emory Tarpley officiating. Interment will be in Ross Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Boitnott Funeral Home. Donations maybe made in her memory to Old Bethel United Methodist Church or Craig County Rescue Squad.

FLAUGHER, Betty Beck, 65, of 107 College Park Drive, Lynchburg, died Tuesday, April 30, 1996, at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of Charles F. Flaugher. Born in Surry County, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Odell and Ossie Puckett Beck. She attended Radford University and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Lynchburg College in 1952, and later earned a Master of Education Degree, also at Lynchburg College. She began her teaching career in Carroll County and taught in the Lynchburg City School System from 1966 until her retirement in 1991, spending the majority of those years with her loving friends at Sandusky Elementary School. Mrs. Flaugher was a charter member of Timberlake Christian Church. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Beck and James Beck. In addition to her husband she is survived by one daughter, Rose Ellen Flaugher of Lynchburg;, and one brother, Jack Beck of Lynch Station. A memorial service will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Timberlake Christian Church with the Rev. Robert Mooty and the Rev. Mark Benson officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the residence. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the medical intensive care unit at Lynchburg General Hospital or the Jack Johnson Memorial Fund at Timberlake Christian Church. GAY, Woodrow Jackson, 72, of Roanoke, died Monday, April 29, 1996, in a Salem hospital. He served his country during World War II and retired from the sheet metal business. He was preceded in de ath by his wife, Lorraine Gay; parents, William and Lula Gay; sister, Anna; brothers, Reg, Norman, Gordon, George, Frank, and Richard Gay. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Lynn Stevens and Jack Stevens, Monterey, Calif.; his sisters, Eula Hycinth Orange, Doris Dean Oyler, Bette Jean Gay, all of Roanoke, Louise Gay Sowers, Elizabeth Gay Collins, both of Florida; one granddaughter, Kimberly. HARRISON, Wallace Keith, 65, of Natural Bridge, died Wednesday, May 1, 1996, in the Stonewall Jackson Hospital. JONES, Maggie Lane, 81, of Christiansburg, peacefully made her journey to her heavenly home on Wednesday, May 1, 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Jones; and one son, Manuel L. Jones. Surviving are one son, Marcus Goff Jones, Callaway; three daughters and sons-in-law, Leoma and Glen Hungate, Radford, Mary and Jeff Compton, Wanda and James Terry, all of Christiansburg; one daughter-in-law, Patricia Jones; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Helen Simmons, Radford, Rachel and Charles Jones, Christiansburg; two brothers, Oakley Lane, Henry Lane, both of Radford; one sister-in-law, Mildred Lane, Radford; eleven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. KIDD, William Ellis, 71, of Vinton, died Thursday, May 2, 1996. He was a longtime employee of the Coca Cola Company, and was a member of the Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church. Surviving are two brothers, George C. Kidd and Richard L. Kidd, both of Vinton; a sister, Mary V. Caldwell of Roanoke; four nieces; and one nephew. LaFON, William Madison Jr., of North Charleston, S.C., died Thursday, April 25, 1996, at his residence. He was born September 24, 1915, in Roanoke, a son of William Madison LaFon Sr. and Jessamine Showalter LaFon. He was a member of Park Circle Presbyterian Church, and was a retired mechanical engineer for Westvaco Corp. He is survived by four daughters, Elizabeth Buggelof, Columbia, S.C., Susan Lindsey of Charlotte, N.C., Bonnie Farias-Miller of Ladson, S.C., Virginia Felber of Goose Creek, S.C.; one sister, Lovella Ingram of Arlington, two half sisters, Margaret Nuckols of Charlottesville, Carolyn Rader of Novi, Mich.; one half brother, Richard LaFon of Charlottesville; seven grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. LOGAN, Ella Howlett, 75, of Hillsville, passed away Thursday, May 2, 1996 at her residence. She was born January 27, 1921 in Carroll County, daughter of the late Charles M. Howlett and Lula Webb Howlett. She was preceded in death by her husbands, James W. Hagy and Patrick Logan, a daughter, Lu Ann Coalson, a son, Mike Logan and her brother, John William Howlett. LOTTS, Clara Virginia, 75, of Raphine, died Wednesday, May 1, 1996, at her residence. She was born in Rockbridge County on April 16, 1921, a daughter of the late Marion E. Withers and Mary Ellen Grooms Withers. Mrs. Lotts was a member of New Providence Presbyterian Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, McDowell David Lotts on November 21, 1995. Survivors include a son, John David Lotts, Greenbrier, Tenn.; five daughters, Judith A. Camden, Churchville, Brenda S. Lotts, Fishersville, Juanita L. Landes, Greenville, Betty Jo Allman, Raphine, and Mary L. (Ginny) Shaffer, Beech Grove, Ind.; a sister, Catherine W. Ralston, Staunton; a very special and devoted friend, Norma (Sis) Earhart, Raphine; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren, and a ninth great-grandchild due in August. MITCHELL, William (``Bill""), 88, of Christiansburg, died Wednesday, May 1, 1996, at his residence. He was born August 10, 1907 in Christiansburg. He was the son of the late William and Leli a Mitchell. He was a member of the Schaeffer Memorial Baptist Church, Christiansburg and he was also a former member of St. John's Lodge #35. He was a veteran having served in World War II having served in the U.S. Army. He was a retired employee of the Radford Army Ammunition Plant. He leaves to cherish his memory one niece, Lelia Lynch Johnson, and her husband, Clarence Johnson, Christiansburg; a cousin, Rapier Mosley, Roanoke; and a host of friends. He was a member of Lakeland Masonic Lodge #190, the Royal Arch Murray Chapter 22, the Scottish Rite, Kazim Temple, and the Roanoke Valley Shrine Club. SMITH, Mary Louise Colburn, 65, of Mohawk Drive, King, N.C., died Thursday, May 2 , 1996. She was born March 2, 1931 in Detroit, Mich. to Loring Charles and Mary Reynolds Colburn. Surviving are her husband, Charles C. Smith of the home; three daughters, Tere Berger Trites of King, N.C., Carol Weatherly of Parrott, and Sheila M. Smith of Winston-Salem, N.C.; one son, MGYSGT Harry A. Mrs. Webb has been a member of Stone Mountain Baptist Church since 1943 and was the oldest member. WHEELING, Robert I., 78, of 1915 Boulevard St., Greensboro, NC, died Sunday, April 28, 1996 at Moses H. Cone Hospital. Mr. Wheeling was a native of Roanoke, Va. He was a retired food products salesman. He was a member of the Loyal Order Of Moose in Roanoke, Va. He attended worship services at Meadowbrook Terrace Nursing Home. YOUNG, Beulah Sink, 86, of Roanoke, passed away Thursday, May 2, 1996 at Camelot Hall of Salem. She was the widow of W. Herbert Young and daughter of the late Alberta and John Sink. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Lorraine and Nelson Brumfield, Bent Mountain; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Sharon and Daniel Andrews, Copper Hill; three grandsons, John Brumfield, William Brumfield, Roanoke, Steven Brumfield, Ocala, Fla.; great-granddaughter, Aimee Andrews, Copper Hill; sister, Bess Sanderson; brother, John Sink; sister-in-law, Stella Sink; brother-in-law, Paul Vest, all of Roanoke; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 4, 1996, 12 p.m., at Calvary United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rob Colwell and the Rev. Denise Huffman officiating. Interment will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Lotz Roanoke Chapel
