AUTHOR TO SPEAK AT UNITARIAN CHURCH

Thomas Berry, an author and scientist who has written and spoken about the connections between religion and ecology, will speak at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship on Gladewood Drive in Blacksburg at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

Berry is the author of "The Dream of the Earth" and "The Universe Story," (co-written with Brian Swimme). He was invited to speak in Blacksburg by a church member who attended one of his seminars. A reception will follow. 552-3136.

SERVICES

* Christiansburg's Holy Spirit Catholic Churchwill celebrate Mass at 5 p.m. today at Our Saviour Lutheran Church on Cambria Street. The readings will be Acts 6:1-7; 1 Peter 2:4-9; John 14:1-12. 382-8028.

* Blacksburg's St. Mary's Catholic Church on Harding Avenue will celebrate Mass at 5 p.m today and at 8:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Sunday. The readings will be Acts 6:1-7; Psalm 33:1-2, 4-5, 18-19; 1 Peter 2:4-9 and John 14:1-12.

* The Metaphysical Chapel on the corner of Church and Lee streets in Blacksburg will host Estill Putney, who will speak on "Spiritual Transformation" at 7 p.m. Sunday. 951-4848.

* The Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the New River Valley on Gladewood Drive in Blacksburg will feature Rudi Gelsey speaking on "The National Summit on Meaning and Ethics: Restoring Meaning, Hope and Possibility" at 10:30 a.m. Sunday. Carolyn Byerly and Kay McGraw will talk about "Whiter the Democratic Left" during a roundtable at 9 a.m. 552-2717.

* Children's Day will be Sunday at Grove United Methodist Church in Radford. Children will lead the 11 a.m. service, the Children's Choir will sing, and babies born during the previous year will be on parade. A family festival will follow, with a picnic, games and other activities.

* Park United Methodist Church on Park and Lester streets in Christiansburg will have its second annual missions festival today and Sunday. Speaking at 7 p.m. today will be Mary Beth Blinn, a former pastor at the church, who with her husband has been serving as missionaries in Kentucky. 382-5474.

REVIVALS

* Abundant Life Fellowship on Mud Pike in Christiansburg will host a revival by Doug Eccles, from Livonia, Mich., 8:30 and 11 a.m., and 6 p.m. Sunday, and 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.

* Schaeffer Memorial Baptist Church in Christiansburg will have a youth revival at 7 p.m. May 9 through 11. 381-7171 or 382-6168.

* Rockford United Methodist Church on Viscoe Road in Fairlawn will have a revival at 7 p.m. May 12 through 15 with guest speaker Billy Hale, owner of WPUV radio station in Pulaski and a member of the church. 639-5185.

JOYFUL NOISES

* A benefit sing for Brian Atkinson, who needs a bone marrow transplant, will be at 7 p.m. today at New Hope Church of God on Mud Pike in Christiansburg. Performing will be the Young at Heart and the Martin Family. Food will be on sale to help with the transplant. 381-1137 or 382-1954.

* Fairlawn Church of God on Peppers Ferry Road will have its annual Spring Gospel Music Weekend today and Sunday with the Singing Cookes and the Cooke Brothers at 7 p.m. today and Willis Canada during the 11 a.m. service. 639-1511.
