BARNES, Charles Junior Sr., 54, of Huddleston, passed away Friday, May 3, 1996 in a Roanoke hospital. Mr. Barnes was born on November 26, 1941 in Barton, Maryland, a son of the late Raymond Barnes and Myrtle Beeman Bar nes, was a meat cutter for Giant Foods and was the founder and Huntmaster of the High Meadows Hunt Club. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Stewart Barnes; a son, Charles J. Barnes, Jr., Roanoke; a daughter and son-in-law, Kitty A. and Ken Tomkinson, Lynch Station; four grandchildren, Shannon, Jessica, John and Dustin; a sister, Margaret Crawford, Lonaconing, Md.; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Louise and Donald Ashby, Sterling, Freda and Homer Beeman, Westernport, Md., and Mary and Don Dawson, Deer Park, Md. A graveside service will be conducted Sunday, May 5, 1996, at 2 p.m. from the Barnes Family Cemetery by the Rev. Homer Beeman. The family will receive friends at Updike Funeral Home, Huddleston, tonight from 7 to 9 p.m.

BOYD, Wilson, 83, of Floyd, passed away Friday, May 3, 1996, at his home. He is survived by his wife, Atlas Naff Boyd, Floyd; two sons and one daughter-in-law, John W. Jr. and Carol Boyd, Floyd, Danny Boyd, Floyd; grandson, John W. Boyd III, Floyd; two granddaughters and fiance, Donna Boyd and Ronnie Shelo r, Floyd, Charity Boyd, Floyd; seven sisters, Ocie Weddle, Sylvia Hatcher, Irene Spangler, Lucy Harris, all of Floyd, Goldie Nolen, Christiansburg, Pauline Brockwell, Richmond, Tempsey Mitchell, Salem. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, May 5, 1996, at Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren, with Rev. Richard Thomas and Rev. Hebron Quesenberry officiating. Interment will follow in Jacksonville Cemetery. COLE, Samuel Cecil (``Sam''), a loving and gentle man, 56, of Salem, died Friday, May 3, 1996 at Lewis-Gale Hospital. He was preceded in death by his father, John M. Cole. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Clementine L. Cole; son, Daniel M. Cole, Roanoke; mother, Katherine P. Cole; brother and sister-in-law, John M. Jr., and Betty Cole; niece, Cheryl Cecil Cole; brother-in-law, David M. Lynch; sisters-in-law, Audrey L. Dearing, Ruth D. Lynch, Alyene C. Lynch; several loving aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 6, 1996, at the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel in Salem, with Dr. Slavy B. Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Sherwood Memorial Park. DYER, John Edward, 69, of Roanoke, passed away Friday, May 3, 1996. He was a naval veteran of the Korean Conflict, was formerly of Rochester, N.Y. (where he was employed by the Eastman Kodak Company for over 20 years) and Boca Raton, Fla. (where he was the former owner of Southern TV). Mr. Dyer retired to Roanoke in 1995. He was preceded in death by two sons, David L. Dyer and Timothy D. Dyer. Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Nancy E. Dyer; a son and daughter-in-law, Steven M. and Jane Dyer, Roanoke; four grandchildren, Michael E. Dyer, Scott C. Dyer, Kelly N. Dyer, Adam J. Dyer; four sisters; two brothers. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday from Oakey's Roanoke Chapel with the Rev. John D. Cochran officiating. Interment will take place at a later date in Greece, N.Y. Arrangements by Oakey's Roanoke Chapel.

GOIN, Jesse Randall, 19, died Thursday, May 2, 1996 as a result of a motorcycle accident. He was a former student at Patrick Henry High School, and survivors include his mother, Kyle M. Crosswhite; stepfather, David L. Crosswhite, both of Roanoke; father, Jerry T. Goin, Jr., Houston, Texas; paternal grandparents, Jerry and Jackie Goin, Salem; stepgrandfather, Melvin Ray Crosswhite, Salem; several uncles and cousins. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 5, 1996, with visitation following, in the John M. Oakey & Son Chapel, Salem. JONES, Maggie Lane, 81, of Christiansburg, peacefully made her journey to her heavenly home on Wednesday, May 1, 1996. KIDD, William Ellis, 71, of Vinton, died Thursday, May 2, 1996. He was a longtime employee of the Coca Cola Company, and was a member of the Thrasher Memorial United Methodist Church. Surviving are brother, George C. Kidd; brother and wife, Richard L. and Joyce Kidd, all of Vinton; a sister and husband, Mary V. and Roy Caldwell of Roanoke; four nieces; and one nephew. MASTERS, Margaret Chamberlain, 91, of Salem, died Friday, May 3, 1996 after a brief illness. She was the widow of Professor Miles S. Masters, chairman of the Classics & Fine Arts Department at Roanoke College for 44 years. Dr. Masters founded the college's overseas travel and study division and Mrs. Masters accompanied him on college tours to dozens of countries during his tenure. Both were graduates of Denison University, where her father was president. Mrs. Masters was a former English and Latin instructor at Roanoke College. She also taught at Shawsville High School in Montgomery County and was retired from William Byrd High School in Vinton. She was a member of Salem Baptist Church's Philathea Class and a long-time choir member. She also belonged to the Roanoke College Fortnightly Club and was a past member of the Salem Women's Club and Salem Music Club. Survivors include a daughter, Betty Masters, Salem; son-in-law and daughter, Col. Dan S. and Virginia Masters Leonard, Yorktown; sons and daughters-in-law, Miles H. Masters, Salem; Ann Masters, Roanoke; Bob and Bettie Sue Masters, San Antonio, Texas; six granddaughters, their husbands and children, Wayne and Margaret Miles Leonard Clark, North Beach, Md.; Patrick and Elizabeth Leonard Ryan and children, Dana and Sean, of Yorktown; Jan and Chamberlain Ann Masters Miller and sons, Ryan and Coleman, of Ashburn; Dr. L. MILLS, Woodrow George, (``Woody''), 79, of Roanoke, died Thursday, May 2, 1996. Mr. Mills was a retired Switchman from Norfolk & Western Railway with 37 years service, and was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Richards Mills. Surviving are his children and their spouses, Judy and Nelson Burkholder, Spartanburg, S.C., Jim and Carol Mills, Cherie and Paul Dicks, all of Roanoke, Lynn and Jessie Stevens, Goodview, Eldridge and Debbie Sower, Salem; a stepson and his wife, Tim and F lorence Mills, Rustburg; 13 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren. MORRIS, Catherine Lynn, (Kathy) 37, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord, Friday, May 3, 1996 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She was a graduate of Northside High School, Class of '77. She is survived by her parents, Jack K. and Catherine D. Morris; a sister, Sherry R. Kincer, all of Roanoke; a brother, Jack K. Morris II, Richmond; stepbrother, Robert Sampson of California; a niece and nephew, Michelle and Joshua Ruble of Roanoke; two nephews, Zachary and Tyler Morris of Richmond. TROUT, Mildred L., 69, of 6714 NE 5th Street, Ocala, Fla., died Monday, May 1, 1996, at her residence. She was a native of Montvale. WORTH, Minnie Fitzgerald, 58, of Buena Vista, died Thursday, May 2, 1996, at her home. Born in Botetourt County on December 25, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Hansford A. and Ruth Camden Fitzgerald. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry L. Worth. She is survived by three daughters, Judy Perry and Dana Camper, both of Fairfield, and Faye Silvea of Buena Vista; three sisters, Janie Fitzgerald of Lexington, Betty Hostetter of Buena Vista, and Peggy Slagle of Vesuvius; a brother, Frank Fitzgerald of Lexington; four grandchildren. YOPP, Roy J., 82, of Madison Heights, formerly of Salem, died Thursday, May 2, 1996 in a nursing home. He retired from the Baptist Children's Home in Salem where he worked for 42 years as a farm manager. Survivors include his wife, Margaret M. Yopp; a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald W. and Joyce B. Yopp, Fincastle; daughter and son-in-law, Valeria L. and Henry L. Allen, Madison Heights; grandchildren, Henry L. Allen, II, and wife, Heather M. Allen, Ronald Wayne Yopp, II, Christopher J.
