Circus exhibit

``The Star City Circus Spectacular'' is being held on weekends at the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke.

From now until May 26, the ``Bozos and Boxcars'' photography exhibit will give a view of circus life on the road.

The Spring Railfair will be held today and Sunday and includes model train layouts, a model and rail memorabilia sale and workshops today.

Family Days, on May 11-12, will include clowns, a petting zoo, face painting, a circus car-building contest and parade.

On May 18, ``Ringling Rides the Rails - the Golden Age of Traveling Circuses,'' will include a lecture at 1 p.m. by LaVahn Hoh.

``Your Great-Grandparents' Great Adventure - Travel in Their Times'' will be held May 25. Workshops from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. will include workshops on the coming of the automobile and on the Titanic.

The museum is located at 303 Norfolk Ave. It is open Monday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., Sunday, noon-5 p.m.

Shakespeare auditions

Auditions will be held Sunday from 1-5 p.m. for The Second Annual Roanoke Valley Shakespeare Festival and an original musical to be presented this summer.

Auditions will be held in Whitman Auditorium at Virginia Western Community College, the sponsoring organization for the festival.

Auditionees for the festival should prepare a two-minute monologue. Those interested in auditioning for the musical should prepare a short song and two-minute monologue.

Kendig nominations

This year's Kendig Award committee is requesting nominations from the public for individuals and/or businesses who have made outstanding contributions to the arts and culture in the Roanoke region.

This annual award recognizes outstanding examples of support, involvement and accomplishments in the arts and informs the community about the many contributions made to the arts in this area.
