Radford chamber sets awards banquet

RADFORD - The Radford Chamber of Commerce will conduct its 51st annual awards dinner at 6:30 p.m. May 16 in Radford University's Muse Hall.

Frank Beamer, Virginia Tech's head football coach, will be guest speaker.

The Business Person of the Year Award and the Education Support Award will be presented.

Raines to open new Giles office

Pearisburg - Raines Real Estate Inc. will have an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony at its new office at 703 Wenonah Ave. at 4 p.m. May 10.

Refreshments will be served.

Business seminar planned in Wytheville

WYTHEVILLE - Wytheville, Southwest Virginia and Mountain Empire community colleges will sponsor a seminar on the "Theory of Constraints" from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 21 at Wytheville Community College.

The Theory of Constraints is a new business-management philosophy that focuses on identifying the constraints that affect the performance of any system.

The seminar will include a step-by-step introduction to the theory and examples of how it has worked for real companies.

The cost is $195 per person.

Jeanette Hurt Clippard wins Chamber honors

WYTHEVILLE - Jeanette Hurt Clippard worked for more than 27 years in the Wytheville-Wythe-Bland Chamber of Commerce office before she retired in 1990. She continues to participate in its activities.

She was attending the chamber's 50th anniversary celebration earlier this month when she was named as the chamber's Citizen of the Year.

Laymond Barger of Ceres was the chamber's Farmer of the Year. His 800-acre family farm in Bland County is home to 150 beef cattle and 60 sheep.

Newly elected chamber directors were Bill Carpenter, Ted Creger, David Johnson, Steve Kline, Collin Peel and Brad Snapp.
