Police officer charged with flashing kids
FAIRFAX - A Washington, D.C., police officer has been charged with exposing himself to a group of children near his home in Burke, a Fairfax County police spokeswoman said.
Patrick J. Donovan, 32, was arrested at the Metropolitan Police Department after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He is being held in the District awaiting extradition to Fairfax County.
Officer Vincenta Call, a Fairfax County police spokeswoman, said the charges stemmed from an April 21 incident at a playground in Burke where a man exposed himself to a group of children between the ages of 5 and 9. The man was walking his dog and started talking to the children when he exposed himself, she said.
``He just exposed himself to them,'' Call said.
Call said Donovan was arrested after one of the children identified him and after Fairfax County police searched his home Thursday and found clothing they believe he wore during the incident.
Donovan, who joined the police department in 1987, is a member of the District's elite emergency response team in the Special Operations Division.
He was placed on administrative leave with pay during the investigation, a D.C. police spokesman said.
Call said detectives are trying to determine if Donovan is tied to other flashing incidents that have been reported in the Burke area where a man exposed himself to children.
``We're going to go back and check to see if any other incidents are related to this one,'' she said. ``We're also asking anyone who has had contact with him similar to this to call us.''

Police officials would not confirm the neighbors' description of the body, but they a spokesman, Lt. Barry Bernard. ``We don't know whether there's any significance to it,'' he said.
Police said there was no identification on the body.
Police described the woman as black, 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 6 inches tall, with close-cropped hair that has a reddish tint. A police spokesman said the woman had a very slight build.
