CITIZENS CALENDAR KEY DATES FOR 1996

TUESDAY

Election Day: Municipal elections in Roanoke, Salem, Christiansburg, Blacksburg, Radford, Pulaski, Dublin, Bedford and other cities and towns in Virginia. Radford also elects school board. Polls open at 6 a.m., close at 7 p.m.

SATURDAY

* 5th District Democrats hold convention in Charlottesville to nominate a congressional candidate. Virgil Goode has clinched majority of delegates.

* 6th District Democrats hold convention in Roanoke to nominate a congressional candidate. Jeff Grey is the only declared candidate.

* 9th District Democrats hold convention in Abingdon to renominate Rep. Rick Boucher for Congress.

* 9th District Republicans hold convention in Wytheville to nominate a congressional candidate. Tom DeBusk, Barnes Kidd and Pat Muldoon are the candidates.

May 18: 5th District Republicans hold convention in Forest to pick a congressional candidate. George Landrith, Frank Ruff and Ron Buchanan are the candidates. 6th District Republicans hold convention in Bridgewater to renominate Rep. Bob Goodlatte for Congress.

May 31-June 1:Virginia Republicans hold state convention in Salem to fill various party offices.

June 7-8: Virginia Democrats hold state convention in Hampton to pick a U.S. Senate candidate. Mark Warner has clinched majority of the delegates.

June 11: ELECTION DAY: Virginia Republicans hold primary to pick a U.S. Senate candidate. John Warner and Jim Miller are the candidates.

Aug. 12-16: Republican national convention in San Diego.

Aug. 26-29: Democratic national convention in Chicago.

Oct. 11: Deadline to register to vote if not already on the books.

Nov. 5: ELECTION DAY: Voting for president, U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.
