MAN'S SON CHARGED IN BEATING

A Blacksburg man was charged with fracturing the skull and breaking the ribs of his elderly father during a brutal beating Sunday morning.

Blacksburg police said Russell G. Louis, 78, is in stable condition at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He also suffered numerous cuts around his head and neck that required stitches.

Police said the beating began with a verbal disagreement that escalated into an assault.

Robert D. Louis, 44, was charged with malicious wounding and was taken to Montgomery County Jail. He was then transported to Southwestern Virginia Mental Health Institute in Marion on Sunday, Deputy Sgt. George Reed said.

Louis is scheduled to be arraigned today in Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.
