Montgomery County sheriff's deputies responded to a possible drowning call at a Christiansburg pond early Sunday afternoon.
After arriving at the pond behind Olde Farm Village, rescuers recovered Jaimee Deihm, 4, from the bottom of the pond, said Rebecca Powell, nursing supervisor at Montgomery Regional Hospital.
She had been under water about 45 minutes before a pulse and heartbeat were re-established, said Michael Shove of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.
Deihm first was taken to Montgomery Regional Hospital and then to Community Hospital of Roanoke Valley where she remained on life support Sunday night, Shove said.
