ASHLEY, David Raymond, 39, of Blacksburg, died Saturday evening, May 4, 1996, at Friendship Manor in Roanoke. He was the son of the late Frank E. and Ruth Smith Ashley. Surviving are two brothers, Lowell E. and Kenneth E. Ashley of Christiansburg and Roanoke, and a sister, Loretta A. Foster of Pensacola, Fla. A graveside memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 1996, at Westview Cemetery in Blacksburg. The family requests no flowers. KING, Betty Via, 85, of Oriskany, died Sunday, May 5, 1996, at her home. She is survived by three daughters, Gladys Anderson, Gayle Hanna and Gay Devinney, all of Oriskany; one son, Gary King of Columbus, Ohio; one brother, William Via of Covington; one sister, Mabel King of Oriskany; 14 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Oriskany Community Church, with interment in the King family cemetery. The family will receive friends at Boitnott Funeral Home from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.

MILLER, Franklin D., Sr., 61, of Roanoke, passed away Sunday, May 5, 1996. He was a retired miner from the coal mines of West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Moss and Easter Miller. He is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years, Kathleen B. Miller; three daughters and sons-in-law, Judy and Jerry Walters, Caroline and Ronnie England, and Lula and Jerry Sn yder; a son and daughter-in-law, Frank Jr. and Karen Miller; six grandchildren, and brothers and sisters, Mossie, James and Charles Miller, Fannie Moore, Pauline Ward and Elsie Mae Trent. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 7, 1996, at Oakey's North Chapel, with the Rev. Carl Basham officiating. Interment will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. MUSE, Frank S., 91, of Moneta, formerly of Roanoke, died Sunday, May 5, 1996 in Bedford County Memorial Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Susan Pratt Muse. Mr. Muse was a member of Raleigh Court United Methodist Church and was retired from the Norfolk & Western Railway. Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Donald F. and Patricia Muse, Moneta; three grandchildren, Michael D. M use, Atlanta, Ga., David R. Muse, Washington, D. C., Linda Muse-Buchanan, Roanoke; also five great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's Roanoke Chapel, 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, with the Rev. William B. Ramey, Jr. officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
O'DELL, Macie Ernestine, 68, of Rocky Mount, passed away Friday, May 3, 1996. Born on September 17, 1927, she was a daughter of the late Andrew and Mary Roberts Spicer. Surviving are her husband, William Paul O'Dell of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Paula and Freddie Cundiff of Rocky Mount; two sisters, Victoria Odle of Salem and Rosie Odle of Chicago, Ill.; one grandson, Jimmy Wayne Hubbard of Rocky Mount, and several niec es and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, May 6, 1996, at Rocky Mount Pentecostal Holiness Church, with the Rev. Jackie Spence and the Rev. Kirby Phillips officiating. O'TOOLE, Martin F., 62, of Christiansburg, died Thursday, May 2, 1996, at his home. Born in Jackson Heights, N.Y., he graduated from Brooklyn Polytechnical Institute where he received his B.S. degree in mechanical engineering. He worked for Hallen Construction in Island Park, N.Y., and was a Registered Professional Engineer in New York and Virginia. He served in the U.S. Army as a first lieutenant. At the 1964 World's Fair, he built the Transportation Pavilion and International Plaza. At Expo `67 in Montreal, he built pavilions for the governments of India and Barbados. As Vice President of Sky Chefs, the hospitality division of American Airlines, he developed and built hotel resorts in the United States, Mexico, Hawaii, Korea and Fiji. As the director of Southern Pacific Hotel Corporation in Sydney, Australia, he developed and built resorts in Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia and New Guinea. As Senior Vice President of Beckett International in Los Angeles, he was instrumental in opening up China to Western business; he developed and built the first ever foreign-owned hotel in China, The Great Wall Hotel in Beijing. At Butier Engineering in Huntington Beach, Calif., he managed many major public works projects. Marty also started Worknet, a support group and job network for California's many unemployed. Working with Our Lady Queen of Angels Church in Newport Beach, Calif., he helped many people to a fresh start with Worknet, a program that since has been adopted by many other churches. A year ago Marty and Eileen settled in Virginia, and he became the County Engineer for Montgomery County. He created the Frog Pond, the new municipal water park, as well as overseeing such important projects as the Blacksburg Library, and the Health and Human Services Building. Survivors include his wife, Eileen O'Toole; two sons, Matthew and Thomas O'Toole, both of Newport Beach, Calif.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Eric Moe of Buckinghamshire, England, and Kerry Ann and Keith Dame of Roanoke; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Joan and John Piardi of Merritt Island, Fla.; a niece and nephew, Lisa and Michael Piardi of Orlando, Fla., and a brother, John O'Toole of Ansonia, Conn. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 7, 1996, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Blacksburg, conducted by Father Donald L. LeMay. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Little Angels Preschool, St. Mary's Catholic Church, 706 Harding Avenue, Blacksburg, Va. 24060. PHILLIPS, Benny Ray, 66, of Willis, died Sunday, May 5, 1996 at his home. He was a retired foreman from Lynchburg Foundry, Radford Plant, a veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of Indian Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church. He is survived by his wife, Kate Cox Phillips, Willis; two sons, Larry Dale Phillips, Willis, Nathan R. Phillips, Indian Valley; one daughter, Dinah Phillips Perdue, Willis; three brothers, Stanley Phillips, Radford, Flemon Phillips, Christiansburg, Cecil Phillips, Cincinnati, Ohio; two sisters, Hattie Wright, Clemons, N.C., Hazel Phillips, Fayetteville, N.C.; and seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Indian Valley Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Phillip Dunn and the Rev. Nathan R. Phillips officiating.
