DUO ECLIPSES WATER'S EDGE EVENT RECORD

Jim Kite and Stan Fischer completed a record-breaking performance Sunday in the fifth Water's Edge Invitational golf tournament in Penhook.

Kite, a top Senior Division player from Wolftown, and Fischer of Richmond fired a final-round 2-under-par 70 to emerge victorious by two shots in the two-man, best-ball event.

Kite and Fischer, who opened with a tournament-record 64 in Saturday's first round, finished with a 36-hole total of 10-under-par 134, also an event record. The previous record was 136, recorded by 1995 victors Keith Decker of Fieldale and David Partridge of Richmond.

Roanoker Jake Allison and Waynesboro partner Mark Teachey shot Sunday's low round of 66 to grab a share of second at 136 with Harry Lea and Wright Garrett of Danville, who shot 69 Sunday.

Three teams tied for third at 139.

Decker, playing with Bluefield's Charlie Green, tied for seventh at 140.

BASEBALL Radford goes on hitting spree

Radford took the final game of a three-game set with the University of Maryland-Baltimore County 8-4 in Baltimore.

Chris Whiting, Chad Gordon and Shane Reed led the Highlanders' 15-hit attack with three hits each. Rob McCandless added two hits, three RBI and two runs scored and Kelly Dampeer (Northside) got two hits, including a solo homer, for the Highlanders (18-27). The Retrievers (9-28) cut the lead to 5-4 with two runs in the seventh, but Radford came back with two runs in the eighth to seal the win.

* Shortstop Patrick Hall of Washington and Lee was named to the Old Dominion Athletic Conference all-tournament team.

Bridgewater outfielder Chad Hensely was named most valuable player. The Eagles, who won the championship by defeating Lynchburg 14-6 on Sunday, also placed second baseman Ryan Morris, third baseman Jason Griffin, outfielder Cory Heinbaugh and pitcher Deron Crawford on the team. Lynchburg added first baseman Steve Smith, outfielder Lance Sneed, designated hitter Justin Mason and pitcher Jason Jamerson. Catcher Fella Dolby of Virginia Wesleyan rounded out the team.

'Skins unveil new ticket policies

The Washington Redskins announced that season seat holders will receive information on the new Redskins Stadium next week.

The brochure contains information on the stadium's special features as well as procedures and deadlines for ordering season tickets as well as the purchase of executive suites and club suites.

Current season seat holders have the first right to seats in the new 78,600 seat stadium until June 6. Season seat holders will be eligible to reserve the same number of seats in a comparable location.

Fans on the waiting list will be limited to season tickets to two stadium seats with the deadline being June 8.

The general public will be offered the opportunity on June 9 to lease club seats or executive suites if available.

* Several members of the East Coasters/Back Streets team ran in the Hobby Park mountain bike race held in Winston-Salem, N.C.

In the Expert Men's category, Tony Azola finished third; Chris Pohowski in fourth; and Brian Bond in 11th. In the men's sport category, James Loverich was 12; Chris Lenth finished 15; Jim Stone came in 17th and Ashwin Amanna was 20th.

* Lora Barrick bowled a 300 game in the Virginia State Bowling Association Women's Tournament at Lee-Hi Lanes.

It was the first 300 game for the Hampton native. Her three-game total was 757.
