It's every kid's dream. You've just won $1 million in the lottery (we're pretending kids can play). You can spend the day and your money any way you want. There are no rules, but you have to spend the money in one day and one day only. How would you spend the day?
Whatever your plans, you have the opportunity to share them with NewsFun readers, and at the same time, have a chance at becoming a published author and winning a prize for your efforts.
If you enter and win NewsFun's annual writing contest, we'll publish your story in our June 10 edition, the final edition of the school year. You'll also receive a Roanoke Times tote bag. Teachers of the winning contestants will receive a Roanoke Times mug.
Here's all you have to do:
Write an original essay about how you would spend the day if you'd just won $1 million. Tell us where you would go and what you would do, and describe your actions, thoughts and feelings. We want the work to be original, based on your ideas and not something you read or heard about from someone else.
You can make your essay as short as you like, but it can be no longer than 200 words. You can submit an illustration with your writing if you want. One illustration will be selected and published in the June 10 edition.
Include your name, grade, school, home address, home telephone number and school telephone number on a separate piece of paper, attached to your entry.
Mail your entry to NewsFun's Writing Contest, The Roanoke Times, P.O. Box 2491, Roanoke, Va. 24010-2491.
All entries must be received by noon May 31.
Entries in the contest will be divided into four age groups: kindergarten-first grade; second-third grade; fourth-fifth grade; and sixth-eighth grade.
