A Roanoke man was charged late Monday with two felony counts after a shooting near the Innkeeper Hotel on Gainsboro Street.
Police responded to a call from the Innkeeper Hotel at approximately 7:45 p.m. and discovered that Phillip Russell Gunn had been shot in the hip while at the Cherry Hill Manor Apartments on Cherry Avenue N.W. Gunn had walked to the hotel and asked for help after the shooting.
Hubert McArthur Hickinson, a resident at the apartment complex, was arrested and charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, according to the arrest warrant.
Hickinson, 26, later made bail and was released pending a hearing in General District Criminal Court on May 7.
Tony Warren, the desk clerk at the Innkeeper made the 911 call after Gunn came down the hill and into the hotel's lobby.
"He came in and told me he was shot. He showed me his hip and said it was burning," Warren said.
Gunn was taken to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where he was admitted and listed in satisfactory condition, a nursing supervisor said.
Police refused to comment further.
