Praise Cafe celebration
Spirit FM will host a special Praise Cafe celebration in honor of its first anniversary on Friday at 6:30 p.m. in the Sheraton Inn ballroom, Roanoke.
The station will also be honoring mothers, presenting each with a carnation.
Beginning at 7 p.m., local talent will perform Christian karaoke and at an open mic.
An all-you-can-eat buffet will be served from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at a cost of $9 per adult, $4 per child. Non-diners will have a cover charge of $3 per adult, $2 per child.
The Praise Cafe is a smoke-free, alcohol-free, interdenominational atmosphere for dining, fellowship and praise.

Civil War lecture
``The Long Road to Appomattox: Lee's Retreat,'' a historical presentation by James I. Robertson Jr., will be given Friday from noon-1 p.m. at the Roanoke Valley Graduate Center.
Robertson is Alumni Distinguished Professor at Virginia Tech and presents a weekly program, ``The Civil War Series,'' on WVTF (89.1-FM) every Friday.
The event is a First Friday Brown Bag Luncheon and Research Presentation.
