Negotiations have broken down for leasing the top floor of the First Union Building, formerly occupied by the Jefferson Club.
Edwin C. Hall of Hall Associates Inc., which handles leasing of the building at 213 S. Jefferson St., had said when the club closed last December that a national company was interested in occupying the downtown Roanoke space.
He said Tuesday that those negotiations have terminated. He said the problem concerned "a difference of opinion" over terms of the lease rather than the space itself.
He said he is seeking another tenant for the 7,000 square feet. "It's one of the best spaces, if not the best space, in downtown Roanoke," Hall said. He said the space is on the prestigious top floor and has views of every elevation of the city. Rental rates in the First Union Building are $14 to $16 a square foot a year, according to recent surveys.
