Radford home tour

RADFORD - The Women's Club of Radford's 1996 Home Tour will be held on May 19 from 2-5 p.m. The event is a benefit for Reading is Fundamental and Babies Into Books programs.

The tour will include the homes of Mark and Cindy Adair, Mountain View Lane, Radford; Robert and Sallie Gill on Country Meadow Drive, Montgomery County; Ian and Jill Speirs, Buckeye Lane, Radford; George and Juanita Harvey, Montgomery County, Dr. William and Barbara Prillamin, Radford. Grace Episcopal Church on Harvey and Fourth Streets in Radford will be another stop on the tour.

Tickets are $10 for the tour or $3 per home.

Bethel PTA to meet

CHRISTIANSBURG - The Bethel PTA will meet Tuesday at 7 p.m. Third- and fourth-graders will perform their spring concert at the meeting. New officers for the 96-97 school year will be installed.

In addition, an educational forum will be held to give parents an opportunity to give input on academic focus for the 96-97 school year.

Lay Advisory Council

CHRISTIANSBURG - The Montgomery County Public Schools is seeking members to serve on the Lay Advisory Council for Curriculum Decision Making. The council will consist on 15 -18 individuals representing the Blacksburg, Christiansburg, Riner and Shawsville strands of the school division. Members will facilitate two-way communication between citizens and the school division on curriculum matters with specific emphasis on curriculum goals and objectives.

Individuals interested should have an interest in the schools, be conscientious about carrying out civic responsibilities, be respected in the community, reflect the diversity of Montgomery County and represent one or more of the constituencies served by the school division: business and industry, human services organizations, parent and local government. Candidates are subject to approval from the Montgomery County Public Schools' School Board.

Deadline for application is May 17. Interested individuals should contact their nearest school principal for application forms.

AAUW book sale

BLACKSBURG - The Blacksburg Area Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) will hold its annual used book sale on May 30 and May 31, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on June 1 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 112 Country Club Drive (former site of United Cities Gas Company) in Blacksburg.

Book donations will be accepted on May 19 and May 25 from 10 a.m. to noon at the same location. Collection boxes are located at the Blacksburg Krogers, Harris Teeter and the Wades store at North Main street.

Proceeds go to the AAUW Educational Foundation local and national awards and scholarships.
