A 17-year-old Speedwell girl died Wednesday after falling from the hood of a Jeep as the vehicle was being driven around the parking lot of a Wytheville apartment complex.

Alecia Denise Jenkins-Wilson was first taken to Wythe County Community Hospital, then flown to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where she died about six hours later.

The accident happened about 6:30 p.m., when Jenkins-Wilson fell while sitting on the hood and struck her head on the pavement at Northwinds Apartments.

She had been scheduled to graduate next month from Rural Retreat High School.

A 16-year-old boy from Speedwell was driving.
