A 17-year-old Speedwell girl died Wednesday after falling from the hood of a Jeep as the vehicle was being driven around the parking lot of a Wytheville apartment complex.
Alecia Denise Jenkins-Wilson was first taken to Wythe County Community Hospital, then flown to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, where she died about six hours later.
The accident happened about 6:30 p.m., when Jenkins-Wilson fell while sitting on the hood and struck her head on the pavement at Northwinds Apartments.
She had been scheduled to graduate next month from Rural Retreat High School.
A 16-year-old boy from Speedwell was driving.
Police were still investigating the accident Thursday.
