Virginia Tech junior outfielder Kevin Barker was voted the Atlantic 10 Conference baseball player of the year, the league announced Friday.
Barker hit 20 home runs, drove in 62 runs and hit .376 for the Hokies, who captured the league's West Division title in their first year of A-10 competition.
Barker was the only Hokie selected to the first team. Senior catcher Josh Herman (.335, 45 RBI) of Roanoke and senior pitcher Sean Hummel (7-3, 3.84 ERA) were chosen to the second team in balloting among the league's head coaches.
Mike Stone of East Division winner Massachusetts was selected coach of the year for the third consecutive season. Senior Josh Bradford (8-3, 1.93 ERA) of Xavier was the pitcher of the year, while Fordham third baseman Tom Stein (.410) was rookie of the year.

In Radford, Charleston Southern defeated Radford 9-7 to clinch the Big South Conference regular-season title and the school's first NCAA Tournament berth.
Shane LaFromboise knocked in four runs and belted a three-run homer in the fifth inning to give the Buccaneers (29-21-1 overall, 16-3 Big South) a 6-0 lead. Radford (19-29, 8-11) rallied in the late innings, when pinch hitter Chris Carr singled in two runs in the eighth to cut the deficit to 9-7. Matt Nowak and Kelly Dampeer each homered as Radford pounded out 13 hits.
ETC. W&L teams earn ODAC honors
For the second straight year, the Old Dominion Athletic Conference has awarded Washington and Lee the men's and combined Commissioner's Cups. Roanoke picked up the women's award, which goes to the top athletic programs.
The Generals won two men's ODAC titles en route to 54 points in the men's competition. W&L's 107 points in the combined competition was 13 points more than Roanoke, which finished with 94 points.
Overall, W&L posted five conference championships on its way to winning the competition for overall athletic excellence.
This year's women's title is Roanoke's second in three years. The Maroons finished with 55.5 points, 2.5 better than Washington and Lee and Lynchburg. Roanoke captured the title with one conference championship and five second-place finishes.
Laurel Park swept the Piedmont District boys' and girls' track championships at Martinsville.
Trisca Waller won the long jump and 100-meter dash as the Laurel Park girls won eight of 16 events. The Lancers finished with 160 points, outdistancing Patrick County at 83.
Tunstall's Crystal Patterson won the high jump, triple jump and 200-meter dash.
Jarrett Hagwood won the 300, 110 hurdles and triple jump to help the Laurel Park boys score 105 points.
The Covington boys' team won seven events to capture the Pioneer District track meet held in Covington. The Cougars won with 126 points, followed by James River, Glenvar, Parry McCluer, Bath County, Highland County and Craig County.
Cory Whitaker and Brent Young won two events apiece. Whitaker won the long jump and high jump, and Young captured the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs.
In the girls' competition, Bath County won with 115.5 points, followed by Glenvar, James River, Covington, Parry McCluer, Craig County and Highland County.
Tory Walton won the high jump for Bath County, and teamed with Jessica Shelton, Tiffany Burns and Courtney Hirsh to win the 1,600-meter relay. (Results in Scoreboard.)
Jennifer Witt of Fieldale-Collinsville defeated Martinsville's Den Nease 6-4, 6-4 to win the Piedmont District girls' tennis singles title. Martinsville downed Fieldale-Collinsville 5-4 to win the team title. Play was suspended by darkness in the doubles championship and will be completed Monday.
Blacksburg swept the New River District boys' and girls' individual tennis titles at Christiansburg.
Robert Gibb defeated Jesse McHose of Christiansburg 6-2, 6-3 to win the boys' singles championship. He teamed with Mike Pfeil to beat McHose and Joel Brown 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) for the doubles title.
Yasamina Hilu of Blacksburg defeated Jennifer Watkins of Carroll County 6-1, 6-0 to wrap up the girls' singles title. She and Sarah Prupas downed Watkins and Katie Johnson 6-1, 6-3 to win the doubles championship.
All winners will advance to the Region IV singles and doubles titles, along with both Blacksburg boys' and girls' teams. In Friday's editions, it was mistakenly stated that Christiansburg had won the regular-season titles.
The Radford girls' tennis team defeated Giles 5-4 in its regular-season finale to win the Three Rivers District.
The Highlanders advance to play the Pioneer District winner at the Region C tournament May 20-21 in Lexington.
Radford will meet the Hogoheegee District winner in the Region C individual tournament during the same period.
The Three Rivers District singles and doubles titles will be decided May 14 at Radford University at 9 a.m.
Radford's Mandy Harless advanced in singles play and will join Leslie Adkins in doubles.
David Dudley of Lynchburg is 20th after three days of the BassMaster Alabama Top 100 fishing tournament at Lake Neely Henry in Gadsden, Ala. He caught five fish weighing 11 pounds, 8 ounces Friday and has a total of 15 fish weighing 32 pounds, 11 ounces. Davy Hite of Prosperity, S.C., is in first place with 15 fish weighing 43 pounds, 6 ounces.
University of Virginia women's tennis players Alison Cohen and Jen Fiers have been selected to participate in the NCAA Division I Championships on May 22-26 in Tallahassee, Fla. Cohen will compete in the individual singles championships for the second consecutive year. She will team with Fiers in the doubles portion of the tournament.
More than 20 racers will attempt to collect a $1,000 bounty placed on Dudley Lawhorn by track owner Whitey Taylor in the 100-lap Late Model Stock car race in the Village Stores 300 tonight at Franklin County Speedway. Lawhorn, the Late Model points leader, has won three races this season.
Mike Dudley will attempt to win his third race in the Limited Sportsman division. Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for students, with children 10 and under admitted free. Gates open at 3 p.m. and racing begins at 7.
Jeff Agnew will try to extend his winning streak to five tonight in the X-Press Marts/Valley Rich 200 at New River Valley Speedway.
NRVS also will hold a special 25-lap Legends race. Gates open at 1:30 p.m., practice starts at 3:30 and racing begins at 8.
