MAROONS SET FOR LACROSSE STAFF REUNION

Roanoke College will make its sixth appearance in the Division III women's lacrosse tournament against a coach - if not a program - with which the Maroons have some familiarity.

Goucher College, which entertains Roanoke today at 1 p.m. in Baltimore, is coached by one-time Maroons assistant Kathy Frick.

Frick, who was at Roanoke in 1992, has coached Goucher to a 17-1 record and its first Division III playoff berth.

Frick is also the head field-hockey coach at Goucher and previously was an assistant in both sports at Colgate. She was the head field-hockey coach in 1995 at Massachusetts-Lowell, which does not have a women's lacrosse program.

The Maroons (12-2), who enter the playoffs with a five-game winning streak, captured their third straight Old Dominion Athletic Conference championship under coach Tracy Coyne.

Five of Roanoke's NCAA appearances have come under Coyne, whose teams never have played Goucher in her seven-year tenure.

The Maroons are led by first-team All-ODAC choices Lisa Franzino and Amy Waldman, a pair of juniors. Franzino has 75 points, including 41 goals, and Waldman is a defensive player.

Sophomore Ali Ogelsby led Roanoke in scoring with 76 points, including 64 goals. The Maroons overcame the loss of Kirsten Wagner, who suffered a knee injury in practice after the sixth game.

Senior Courtney Craggi has 88 goals and 137 points for Goucher, which has won 13 games in a row since losing to Amherst 14-13.
